This church gives you an idea of the importance both past and present of the Catholic church in Ecuador. Located on a lovely plaza, it is especially well placed if you are able to access the "secret" stairway to the roof. This walk up is tricky due to its narrow, uneven, poorly lit stone steps but the view of the... More

Located at a side of the “Plaza Grande”. Beautiful facade built in stone and white walls. It has some nice domes, and its lateral facade is nicer than its front one. It has a litle bit of a gothic style. At its interior, it seems as it has beed restored serveral times and there is a mixture of antique and... More

A must see. Beautiful architecture inspired by the Spanish and built by natives. Pictures are not allowed.

For all what has be seen in Quito in my opinion the Cathedral is average but the ambiance of the square in front of the cathedral cannot be beat. Friendly. Nearby is the city market which is the real thing.

Lovely Colonial Cathedral, one of the finest we saw in our time in Ecuador. Great place to visit, though beautifully preserved and restored, it still retains a lovely authentic, rustic charm. Great views of the city as you climb to the roof. Lovely serene atmosphere inside. Absolutely well worth your time.

The Cathedral has an unusual layout which reduces its visual impact. The Museum displays are very repetitive and only in Spanish. If you have to skip one of the "major" attractions in the Old City of Quito, miss this one.

Beautiful Cathedral, in the heart of the city. There is services and blessings going on regularly which is super to hear especially the singing. There is a great deal of gold, art and various statues all very beautiful.

Maybe it's the fact there are so many more churches to compete with in Quito, but I found the Cathedral lacking in inspiration. The eclectic mismatch of decor looks more like a brick 'n' brack store. Skip this one. Or maybe I missed something???

Stuffy pretentious but not moving. Full of religious kitch but overall nothing really remarkable. It is true that it has a lovely wooden ceiling but for a cathedral church the general impression is mediocre rather than impressive. The museum has many vestments and such but little explanation of what work the church was engaged in. The great hall with all... More
