Resembling a type of small bread (panecillo), this hill makes an excellent observation point over Quito and features La Virgen del Panecillo, a majestic sculpture that can be seen from any location in the city.

It is a 360 surround view and a must see for scenery alone. The statue - no so much. There are souvenirs and food but not the best choices as these things can be found elsewhere.

We took the Hop-on-hop-off bus up to El Panecillo and got to enjoy walking around and inside. Very cool. We were there at Christmas time so there was "the world's largest nativity" set up too. Later that evening we went to a restaurant high up in the hills and watched the sun set behind her and the nativity light up.... More

Every time I am in Quito I go up to El Panecillo. You can go up to a balcony on the statue and enjoy spectacular views of Quito.

Imposing 45m high statue of the Virgin Mary. It sits atop El Panecillo hill. Also take the time to see it from the steeple of La Basilica. The Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour stops on the hill for 20 minutes, and does drop offs and pick ups at La Basilica.

Price to get on is $2 and totally worth it. Great view and history of the build. Nice in the morning and at night! Lots of souvenir tents!

THe panecillo is a beautiful overlook of the city. A short taxi ride and a half an hour of wandering completes the trip. Signs indicate some of sights, but they are old and difficult to read so I recommend reading up a bit before you go if you wanna understand what you are looking at. If not, the view is... More

We went to this place with the hop on hop off bus ($15 per person). There are a lot of food stores which really nice. You can see the town. The statue is nice to see but overall the place is not really special.

The Virgin of Quito is located here and it's really rather beautiful. The views of the city are breathtaking as well! I'd advice driving up because the walk can be strenuous and a bit unsafe. Bathrooms will cost you 25 cents or so at the top.
