As of June 2017 (and judging by the mess, for the foreseeable future) this square has been completely closed off and is undergoing major reconstruction, so there's nothing to see. The church and museum are still open and well worth visiting.

Very pleasant square in the middle of the Old City, surrounded by lovely architecture. Many places to sit and the Revolution statue is lovely.

Unfortunately, the plaza cannot be fully appreciated while they are constructing the new subway, but should be restored in 6 months.

I am sure this square would have been magnificent but at the moment the only highlight is the church and monastery of San Francisco because the rest of the square is under heavy construction due to the building of the metro in Quito. I suppose...More

Close to Calle La Rhonda. Lots of activity when we were there. Surrounded by great restaurants and shops. In the middle of everything.

General plaza near the monastery. Nothing really amazing about it. Near shops and vendors. Felt safe, lots of people around. Some​ good views

Make sure you go inside the church. It is so unique and pretty you will say WOW!!! We also ate right outside at a little cafe that had good food.
