Interesting place. Like a number of pre-Inca sites nobody is exactly sure why it was built and what when on here although there are many theories. There is now a cable car in place which saves many hours of driving. The first tip is that...More

Kuelap Peru is one Peru's most interesting places to visit. Keulap is also known as the Northern Macchu Picchu. To get there is BEST by cable car. It is only a 20-25 minutes cable ride and the overall sights are spectacular for photos. This is...More

The Chachapoyas culture is, in my opinion, the most interesting in Peru. The sites have no equal with any peruvian culture, starting with their sarcophagus on the side of mountains and ending with really big places like Kuelap. This place is a must do in Peru.

Incredible place in the Andes bordering with the high amazon for people who like to hike and walk visiting ancient places and ruins, listening to its history.

As interesting as Machu Picchu. Soon the new funiculars will work and save as 90 minutes drive. You have to walk 2.5 kms or ride a horse. It is a 2.5 hour drive from Chachapoyas city. Really interesting to learn about the Chachapoyas culture. Worth...More

The fortified city of Kuelap, built by the Chachapoya civilisation in today's region Amazonas in northern Peru is a great place to visit. Currently there are not many tourists and you might have the impression to be lost in time. Take a local guide that...More

Kuelap is amazing, really worth the trip. The only issue, if you don't want to go with a tour, is that buses schedule can be quite tricky in the area. We decided to rent a motorbike in Chachapoyas for a 5 day-trip to Leymebamba -...More

I had, frankly, never heard of Kuelap before -- and that's probably a good thing. Unlike Machu Picchu, Kuelap is not yet overrun by selfie-obsessed tourists. This fortified city is fascinating: its layout, colors, and sheer size are different from anything else I've seen in...More

There is a minibus that goes to Kuelap from Chachapoyas, but only early in the morning or late afternoon, to cater to the workers. It is not particularly reliable, I'm told, so best to check when you are in Chacha. If you... More
