It's an amazing place to visit, just the thought of so much history in front of you is enough to give you goose bumps. It's a 350 odd year old church, it has catacombs underneath it as was the norm before cemeteries were used for burials, this church has about 20 000 bodies in it, the bones have been placed... More

I was exploring the historic district and was delighted to discover that this church offered a guided tour of the connected convent. I took the first available one, which was in Spanish, and did my best to understand the guides. As they spoke so quickly, I was relieved to discover enough signs in English for me to piece together key... More

It's also called Monastery of San Francisco in English. My wife and I were here on a Globus tour. Tour director was very good in giving us the history and various sights in the Monastery. There are 3 levels of catacombs, which may not be for those faint of heart, or claustrophobia. BUT it is very interesting and is a... More

We arrived on a feast day with the courtyard filled with people all bringing in an offering or flowers to lay before one of the statues. Fortunately, our guide was able to cut through the crowd to take us on a pre-paid tour of the catacombs. I was prepared for the mustiness, which was actually not as bad as I... More

It's a guided tour and not for those who like to linger - the guide whisks you round a series of beautiful rooms and artworks in a very brisk fashion. Actually perfect for us, as our four boys prefer the speedy style. Stunning library, fascinating artwork - highly recommended.

This is a massive church complex with many different sections. The church itself is amazing especially some of the wooden alters. The catacombs are not to be missed touring with a guide is a major advantage to get to know the background. The Fresco's and tile work on the monestary portion are wonderful as is the surprise last supper painting.... More

My sister and I booked a half day Lima tour. Visiting the convent of San Francisco and its catatombs. It was very educational and amazing that so many people were laid to rest under the church.

Took a tour of the convent grounds and the catacombs. This place is overflowing with history and it is quite nice to see and learn about it. Also the catacombs visit is very interesting and somewhat eerie. What seemed really odd to me was that, while they did not allow you to take ANY kind of pictures anywhere within the... More
