My family and I just completed this dream trip to Machu Picchu, and I am still in awe of the experience. Terra Quechua Peru took care of everything including accommodation, excursions to the various sites and transportation throughout the trip, we had a fantastic group and our guide Joel was the best! He was professional, knowledgeable and personable, and was proud to be part of Terra Quechua, every place we visited was beautiful, this trip was by far one of the best.

Machu Picchu The wonder of the world, with a breathtaking view. Be ready with the proper hiking shoes is all worthy it. The pictures don’t do justice you have experience and see it yourself. I book my trip with Gate 1 travel and everything was smooth they took care everything The trip name is 11 days Ecuador, the Amazon & Peru with Machu Picchu. Is other options as well. Don’t think about it just do it….

What a great place to be during your journey in Peru, after have spent a few days in Cusco we went to this amazing ancient building. It was on my bucket-list for many years and now I have turned my dream on real.
We been very early there and avoid all the crowds and enjoyed as much as we can the views. We took a fully package included the bus drive up to reach Machu Picchu and a lunch at the hotel located at the entrance. So nice experience!

Machu Picchu, an Inca citadel ruin, is definitely worth getting up early to catch the Inca Rail, and then the shuttle bus making 13 switchbacks to climb to the park entrance, and walking up the stairs, panting at a height of 8000+ feet. We followed our tour guide to walk around the site. From the bus station we walked up to the highest place to get the best view of the site. Even though the elevation was only 190 feet, due to the high altitude, it felt like we were hiking up a thousand feet. But once we got up to the top, we were rewarded with the amazing view of the site. The architecture was really impressive. And things were very well preserved. We saw llamas wandering up and down, completely oblivious to all the tourists around them. We stayed for less than 3 hours - wish we could stay longer if not for the long way back to Cusco.

Machu Picchu is fully one of the 7 wonders of the world.we were very lucky because the day was exceptional, and also, having gone in low season (early November 2022), there were not too many people.thanks to Terra Quechua Peru we visited this historic complex and we really enjoyed it. They organised everything for us: from the transport from Cusco to Ollaytaitambo, the train, the bus tickets from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, the hotel was great, the guide, very well prepared, made us complete the tour without rushing, telling us everything we needed to know about the Inca civilization.

Majestic and breathtaking place! It’s a one-way direction only, so don’t miss any point of it. You can go up and down by bus or by walk (special walking route). I used Peru Tripper company to get from Cusco, high-level service, recommend.

Machu Picchu is one of these places we've all heard about or seen everywhere. Reality is much better. It's an impressive fortress, in the middle of the Andes. I won't discover anything you might know. It's totally worth. And if you can, the best way to visit it is by doing the Inca Trail. The satisfaction you feel when you reach it has no words to describe it.
Of course, once you reach it you'll look to take the typical photo, with the fortress and the Wayna Picchu on the back.
As expected, it's full of people.

I am a 76 year old and have been invited to hike the Classic Inca 4 day trek to Machu Picchu. I walk daily but do get winded on hills. Day 2 is a 9 hour hike with 3600 feet elevation gain, I think. I just want to make a wise decision and not be in pain the whole time. thank you, Susan

Hello!
It's going to be your call of course ... but having said that ... the trail itself is fairly mild. The altitude is ranging from 8000 to 12000 feet - you'll definitely feel it, but for the most people it's just matter of spending a few days gradually accommodating. A few days in Cusco starting with full rest to gradually walking around is sufficient for most people. Cusco is located higher than Machu Picchu, so if you can walk around the city after a few days, the trail will be not worse.
The weather is very nice for trekking, it's cool and humid, so your main problem is going to be stay dry but you don't need to worry about overheating. Also, make sure you travel really light. The less you carry the better.
The trail is non technical, so you don't need any particular skills or techniques.
Finally, it stays close to the populated areas, so you can get help if needed. And the locals do care and help.
There are definitely a lot of seniors who make it, so it is possible. It's more about your priorities. I'd say if you really want to do it and minimize risks - book a few extra days gradually increasing altitude. At the end of the day this is the factor in your control to minimize the risks.
Good luck!

Salve a tutti!

Hi - I’ve read numerous articles about maximum backpack sizes which are either listed as dimensions or volume. Mine is 10 litres, half the maximum size, but exceeds the 40cm maximum height.
Which takes priority, volume or dimensions?
Thanks

They aren't checking that closely. However, the bus up there is small and some of the areas are narrow. Ensure your equipment is not going to encroach on other people or damage the site if it's too big.

Ciao,
