Is the best place for a nice saturday. You can eat until you cant walk anymore. Lots of bars and restaurant with musicians playing with guitars and singing just for you. It is a must see!

You have to love your meats if you dare to enter this place. You can smell the sizzling meat market as you stroll down through the streets of the old city taking in all the sights. Lets face it, it is without a doubt a vegetarians nightmare but after all it is what Uruguay is famous for. A must do... More

Great place, lots and lots of good things and wrapped in an atmospheric package that never disappoints. It maybe a bit touristy, but its a good touristy.

This massive conglomeration of parrillas, wine stores, crafts vendors, is a must visit in the Old City! I can't recall if Saturday or Sunday is main day, but do find out and make a trip. Bring your appetitite.....the food is beyond belief and not that expensive. Highly recommended!

Mercado de Puerto, the old port markets is just opposite where the cruise ships berth in Montevideo. It is a large expanse under a high roof like an old English railway station. These days it is a restaurant precinct along with several tourist souvenir shops. Some of their wares are quite artistic and of good quality and of course plenty... More

There is one thing you definitely should do in Montevideo: go for lunch or dinner at Mercado del Puerto! The ambience is great and the food very typical for Uruguay, that means a lot of meat... Prices are reasonable and people friendly.

Nothing really to see just maybe a lot of police in order to protect the tourists. Its visible that they are trying to clean it but it still takes time.

So there are lots of meat restaurants in one plaza. They will shout out to you to come and eat at their restaurant. Walk around first. I was told the prices are very bad there as far as food goes but I did not think that the prices were too high. Good to check out.

Lots of lunch restaurants to choose from, mostly steak. We had the empanadas from Carolinas, which is pretty famous. Then we came back at night and shared a ribeye steak. This is grass fed beef; very flavorful without a lot of fat.
