Description:

Sculptured through the workings of wind, water and vegetation, the Sigatoka...

Sculptured through the workings of wind, water and vegetation, the Sigatoka Sand Dunes stand out as one of Fiji's most unique wonders. In 1989, 390 acres of the Sigatoka Sand Dunes was established as Fiji's first National Park- The Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park. A key contributor to its protection is the archaeological treasures buried beneath the dune sands. These artefacts have contributed to the history of man's first arrival in Fiji. Today, evidence of this past continue to be unearthed by the wind. The Park is home to a unique Dune forest which is now home to a myriad of wildlife. Some notable inhabitants of this forest include the Fijian Swallow tail Butterfly, the fruit bats, the Goshawks, the giant stick insects and cryptic Pacific Boa. The National Park is a Fijian heritage, rich in both natural and cultural attributes.

Located on Queens Road (before you reach Sigatoka if driving from Nadi). Well worth visiting if you have time. I took the short walk which was noted as being 2km but I think it was well over this as it took me 90 minutes. The tracks are well signed and you arrive at the beach to see wooden teepees on... The walk across these huge dunes through a fantastic forest setting which opens out onto a wide natural beach with a fierce sea is a must, you need to be fairly fit to real enjoy this as you have many routes to tackle in the Fiji sun all with stunning views, make sure you go prepared, drinks, hats, good footwear... We were the only ones on an overcast day at this National Park. The hiking path was well marked and the ranger in the visitor center sent us with a laminated map. The view from the top of the Dunes is very pretty, inland is the jungle and on the ocean side is an endless empty beach with lots of... More

Worth a visit to see some of Fiji's natural beauty. A simple non developed park with a clearly marked trail - not for the easily dissuaded or those looking for a quick 10 minute jaunt in the sand. Well maintained walkways and the dunes were really clean - but I've never seen so much driftwood.

Very picturesque and my toddler immensely enjoyed it. There are local guides and they even offered to take us to a swimming spot. Amazing views. If you are into fitness, you should try running up and down the dunes.

My partner, three teenage kids and I took one of the shorter walks through the dunes last week. It was definitely well worth the visit but not for anyone who is unfit. The ranger in the office was very informative and friendly and my kids loved the resident kitten.

The trail was well-marked but there is no shade for much of the route, so be prepared with water, sunscreen, etc. I was hoping for more interpretive signs.

Stopped there for a quick visit on the way from Nadi to Pacific Harbor. The trip around the park only takes about an hour and is well worth your hour. I don't think I would recommend making the hour drive from Nadi just for it though.

We took the bus here from Sigatoka and did the shorter walk through the sand dunes from the visitor centre as it was very hot the day we went. The route is easy to follow and you get great views across the surrounding countryside.
