We were just walking around looking for a market in Papaeete when we stumbled into this place thinking it would b3 just another pressure sales, air conditioned tourist trap. Far from it we discovered some amazing historical artifacts, including the crown of Emperor Charlemagne and many other incredible decorative items of the rich and famous. There was no sales pitch... A welcomed air conditioned haven with a small but very informative museum on the history of pearls both South Pacific and world. The videos run in English and the display pearl designs for sale are beautiful and fun to look at some designs are quite expensive.

Free to get in and gives a great little explanation and displays of the pearls history. Also has some beautiful pieces for sale. Definitely worth the hour + to go thru and read the info, which is all in several languages.

It has a lot of good info in the museum part. The Wan store sales part leaves a lot to be desired. We were looking seriously to buy several sets of earrings and necklaces. We were dressed in shorts and polo shirts. We got the distinct impression that if my wife had been wearing her large diamond ring we might... More

Robert Wan is an icon in the pearl industry. The Musee de la Perle Robert WAN provides very good interpretive displays of the history of pearls as well as what makes a pearl valuable and how pearls are produced. The museum is attached to a retail store - Robert Wan jewelry is wearable art. We are glad we visited.

We wandered the busy city of Papeete and stumbled across the Musee de la Perle Robert WAN. Though small, it is packed with excellent displays and explanatory materials. Our eyes popped at the beautiful pearls, and we learned about the uses of pearls throughout history. We also enjoyed looking at the pearls that were available for sale, but they were... More

Robert Wan has done a superb job showing the history of cultured Tahitian black pearls in this museum. You will see a wide variety of colors, shapes and sizes that you will not ordinarily see. The only drawback are the mannequins that look quite dated. Definitely worth a visit.

There was some interesting history provided in the pearl store front. From how they create cultured Tahitian pearls to the history of pearls throughout time. The store does not push sales which was great. The cheapest thing in there is a pearl bracelet with one pearl for $60.00.
