If you want a quick primer on how things have changed in Albania over the past decade and a half, the National Art Museum is an excellent place to start. There is on permanent exhibit works of the Social Realists School, depicting the partisan struggle against Nazi and Italian fascists, as well as working class Albanians building hydro-electric plants or... The lecture was truly chilling, giving an insight of how Albanian artists were more or less terrorized into painting what the regime thought gave no indication of non communist values. This lecture was organised by Albanian Trip - the company that I travelled round Albania with. I am very interested in all art and found this gallery one of the... More

The museum is not big but houses some fine examples of the art from the communist period. A temporary exhibition on (lack of) urban planning was surprisingly good.

Enjoyed mooching around the exhibitions here , including one about town planning - unfortunately it was all in Albanian so I couldn't tell what they were trying to say . As I've travelled down the Albanian riviera I would say town planning is a travesty there ..... Everything including the beach getting covered in concrete and pine trees . However... More

This museum focuses on Albania's several battles for independence and on its celebration of labor and laborers. Very important as representative of a major cultural moment in Eastern European history.

180 Lek for 3 different sections of socialist art. Pretty unique compared to other countries! I thought it was great value for money and offered alot to look and think about. Sadly, there's very few explanations of the art.

This museum has a unique collection of socialist realistic art from the time og Enver Hoxha. But now they put part of it into the magazines. Including some pictures of artists who were punished because they painted negatively or reactionary. It is too bad but still the museum is worth a visit.
