Not an avid hiker but we decided to spend a day exploring in the mountains, we had a car and the local advice was to drive to the "Vihren hut" and go from there, this is also easily accessed by taxi or bus from Bansko. As it happened we could not get to it as the road was shut further... More

Arguably the most scenic mountain range in Bulgaria. Hiking season normally starts around mid-June but if winter had been harsh, patches of snow on certain trails may still remain until the beginning of July. Exploring the mountains can be done using a base (for example the towns of Bansko or Dobrinishte) or going hut to hut and carrying all your... More

Breathtaking views and some stunning walks to see mountain lakes, waterfalls and fresh air. This was a great experience and would thoroughly recommend anyone visting Bansko to go up the mountains. Snow expected anytime so you had better hurry.

The most amazing mountain in Bulgaria. All peaks are stunning and deserve every difficult step. The views can not be described, should be seen. Some peaks are a challenge and a test of will. Necessarily visit: Vihren peak (2914 m), Djangal peak (2730 m), Djano peak (2668 m), Bezbog peak (2645 m), Dautov peak (2597 m) and many others. But... More

The Pirin Mountains are very nice, although steep, with beautiful landscapes and many lakes. For the ones who made the Retezat mountains in Romania - they look similar, but Pirin are steeper and the altitude is higher. The Vihren Peak (2914m) looks very unapproachable, but in fact is ok, not so technical as it looks like. And the Koncheto Ridge... More

...they don't go together, do they ? And still...there are plenty of nests of storks on the way, very 'crowded'..even if the nests are huge, the 4 inhabitants show you clearly that there is not enough room for everybody :) We started our beautiful drive in Simitli, some 17 km south of Blagoevgrad. It's definitely another scenic drive in Bulgaria.... More

Travelled here as part of a guided tour. The scenery is stunning but beware the walking is very rugged. Your are constantly climbing up and down over rocks and crossing streams. When we were there in June there was still snow on the ground. This is not the place for a leisurely stroll. It is hard core and you need... More

Apex Vihren which is the second highest apex in Bulgariа, the Baikushev's pine, a tree 1300 years old, are the most remarkable landmarks in this park for me.

We visited Pirin National Park for a few hours in October 2014. If you don't have a car, you will struggle to get here - the Park is accessed by a very long, very steep, very windy narrow road. We were fortunate that our hotel provided us with a lift to Banderitsa and back. On the way, we were shown... More
