A decent collection. Most exhibit labels are short and fewer than half in English. About half the rooms have an introductory notice (one sheet A4) in English. Nonetheless worth visiting because you can see both how the Ukraine was integrated into pan-European cultural movements and also how it was different from them. Some of the exhibits relate to current events:... More

The contents of the museum are fabulous, and well worth a visit. If you are Ukrainian then the presentation is just about ok if uninspired. But for English-speaking visitors it is terrible. Ukraine is a great country in crisis, and surely it needs to advertise itself to foreign visitors. But clearly the museum staff just don't care. There are babushkas... More

The museum is rather expansive with a lot of rooms over several floors showing a range of exhibits. The layout is conventional for the most part, however the modern day exhibit for the current "history" of events still taking place around Donetsk was professionally done, maintaining objectivity whilst delivering the poignancy of the events, promoting life and peace above all.

I have visited this museum several times over the past 10 years and I'm happy to say they have included English Labels for most of their displays items, and they are constantly adding more and upgrading them. They have not unfortunately included detailed explanations (In English) for many of the display cases so the labels are not explained well. The... More

The National History museum delivers on its name, providing firsthand contact with artifacts from Ukrainian history from the beginning of time to today. Captions for the objects in Ukrainian abound, while English translations are provided sparsely. If you cannot read Ukrainian (as this reviewer cannot), you will be left to your imagination to provide commentary for a majority of the... More

This is a large museum on top of a hill not far from St Andews church. Very large museum on the history of Ukraine over thousand years. Each floor has a different theme ranging through the ages. For the English speaker, curiously some floors have an English explanation on exhibits other do not. There is a small one page guide in... More

You must allow 2-3 hours for this museum to get most out of the exibition.Another advise is to have a guided tour first and walk around on your own later. So many floors with diverse collection.

This was the best museum that I have seen in Ukraine! Four floors and they had some of everything. The best part was the price. Only 30 grivnas! I've paid must more before at other places and seen much less!

Actually the museum (which is huge and colonnaded) is in a little park just above St Andrew's church. I was delighted to be able to buy a ticket that allowed me to take pictures and I took dozens. Unfortunately none of them came out as there was something wrong with my new camera card. However I have memories of many... More
