This monument is in the centre of kiev which is easy to get to many locations all the cathedral are in this area and the culture centre of Kiev well worth going to the are square a lot of little Square around this area to see and I love going here whenever I am in Kiev so I would say... More

Nice monument for a great man. Everyone should see polish movie "With fire and sword" where he is one of the central figures.

The cossack leader Chmelnitsky may still be a kind of national symbol of Cossack indipendence, but was a fierce anti-semite. No need to leave flowers (and nobody does, actually).

Nice monument in the main Sophia cathedral square - you can't miss it as it is between that church and St. Michael's Church on the other side. Nice walk to have in the spring or summer time.

Visited here first in Aug 2012 then again last month, it was one of the MUST SEE places in Kyiv, Ukraine! Why? Because there are two of the most famous cathedrals are located here by the Sophiyskaya Square! The St. Michael's and St. Sophia's. The nearest metro station are Teatralna and Maidan Niezaliezhnosti. You can spare few minutes easily on this huge monument of Chmielnicky just on your way to St. Sophia Cathedral, Maidan, or to Mikhaylovskaya kolokolnya.

This monument is in the Sofiyska place, so you can see it when wisit the Sofiysky Cathedral. The monument itself- just average

Somewhere you find when you are not really looking - well that is how I found it. The statue itself is really great to look at but the actual square itself is the selling point as far as I am concerned - great architecture and really interesting buildings and some shops.
