Located infront of the Cathedral, it is always busy with people. It has the statue of Barrios riding on a horse. It was around Christmas time when I visited so the decorations are related to Christmas. There are benches to sit down, take a break and just watch people go by.

Basically in the center of everything (to which you can easily walk). Located near the locals market as well where you can get artisanal crafts, local foods, etc...

I loved the statue in the center of the park, as it stands tall in the heart of this beautiful city. The park was getting setup for the Christmas festivities, and the building surrounding it are also beautiful.

An open plaza in the historic centre in San Salvador. The National palace and the metropolitan cathedral faces this plaza. An equestrian statue on a granite platform is dedicated to the former president Barrios. Currently this is the main place for patron saint festivals. There has been several incidents such as the attack on a president in 1913 , riot during funeral of a bishop in 1980, celebration of end of civil war in 1992 and the transfer of power to the current president in 2019 etc have all taken place here

We did a City Tour of San Salvador and explored downtown on foot with our guide. Plaza Barrios is the main square and was quite crowded with people. You will find the National Palace and Metropolitan Cathedral on the plaza. And Rosario Cathedral is a block away.
We came on Friday, December 20 and they were decorating the plaza with Christmas decorations.

Surrounded by major landmarks like the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace, this is a major hub of activities.
There are a lot of tourists who start their tour of El Salvador in this plaza.A lot of locals sell souvenirs in this place and according to our tour guide it a relatively safe place to visit.

Visit the San Salvador down town is a great experience if some one else who know about the local history or tours services. The place has three places or parks with each one singular history. The libertad park is surrounding the ancients beauty buildings and church where the country independence beginning. The "barrio place" is in front of the beautiful palace, museum, national library and the cathedral church where is the crypt of Monsen'or Romero. The catedral is the "main church" of the country. The barrio park has a color water fountain for children with nice light at night. The third place is the "Morazan park" surrounding for a great building the national theater and other ancients buildings. The last park is where are cafeterias, bars, restaurants and business. There are street for pedestrians with good security and clean areas. The whole area is under surveillance at day or night. The down town was a unsecured place until the last years when the mayor Nayib Bukele and other society sector invest money for the renovation. Now is a huge tourist spot for national and international tourist. No exitate to visit a nice place with Incredible potential with art (from each church, palace, theater), museums, churches (catedral and el rosario), parks, historical buildings and areas to have a good time in bars and restaurants. It is true that even all non-formal shops and the disorder of this part of the city that surrounds this "tourist pearl" makes it look dangerous but these 10 blocks are very safe for the tourist.

We stopped here on a short layover we had in San Salvador and it was worth the visit. Our cabbie took us here when we hired him to show us some of the sites. He was a wonderful fellow and took us to quite a few sites in a short few hour visit. This place was interesting to see all the types of people who were here in th middle of the day.
