This was an awesome experience with my grandson. The pace you go through here is up to you, but I would allow a minimum of 4 hours to just see things here, if you want to dabble and discuss, plan for a whole day experience!! Loved it!!!

I suppose if you have exhausted all of this state's majestic beauty and fun things to do. Or, if you are a grade school teacher in search of a cheap field trip to teach some eager beavers about the history of Maine, then this is the place to go. If it is raining the kind of rain that you cannot... More

Were on our way from Bar Harbor to Brunswick and decided to make a stop in Augusta as the weather was dreadful. Our choice happened to be the maine state museum. We didn't expect anything but turned out to be an excellent choice! For 2 USD you have 4 floors of interesting stuff about Maine; the people, history and geography... More

Visited here with a friend from "away," just for something to do. I was pleasantly surprised with the museum and it's exhibits.

The Maine State Museum was truly the highlight of our visit to Augusta. We were staying in the Rockland/Rockport Maine area exploring the Maine coast, but I decided I wanted to venture to Augusta for one day since it was not far and it is the capital of Maine. I expected that there would be lots of history as well... More

Have never travelled in Maine and was most interested to see what the state had to show/say about itself. The entrance price ($2.00) was a most welcoming introduction. Four floors of well presented artifacts including a running saw mill! Won't be disappointed.

My wife and I really enjoyed our 3-hours here. Great attention-to-detail, something for everyone, educational as well as entertaining. One of the most impressive history and cultural museums we've ever seen. Four floors. Well-maintained, excellently-crafted displays with appropriate signage to explain each display. Very low cost for admission. We highly recommend this.
