I used this trip as a teaching experience for my grandson. Then I was amazed to find out about the extent of the slave trade in Maryland and to visit the site where Kunte Kinte arrived in America was quite interesting.

I viewed the Kunta Kinte - Alex Haley Memorial in August 2017. Alex Haley was the author of Roots which I remember watching many years ago. Kunta Kinte was one of the first slaves to arrive in America. I took the time to read the...More

We live in Annapolis and took my wife's cousin on a tour of the City the other day. Ego Alley is always a good place to see the boats in the harbor or people watch during tourist season. However, the best time to visit is...More

Please take the time to stop and LOOK AT THIS MEMORIAL. I can't tell you how many parents had to pull their rambunctious kids off it. It's not a playground. Read the plaques, understand the story and internalize the message.

The real Kunte Kinte was sold at the dock in Annapolis. The dock looked different then, but the Haley Memorial is nicely placed. Kids love to sit with the statue kids and pretend to listen to Mr. Haley read. Photo Op!

The memorial is tastefully done. I am just not sure why it was erected here or at all with all the controversy around the book / story (plagiarism and copyright infringement and the selling of Kunta Kinte as a relative when he was not). It...More
