Lovely drive up one of the highest points on the Island. The highest point you can drive to, Mt Bates is only accessible by walking. 360 degree views of Norfolk Island with Nepean and Philip Islands in the distance. Gives you a great sense of direction. Great bird life may visit you while there. Lots of walks through the National... More

We had been here before and walked between Mt Pitt and Mt Bates. This time it was clear (last time foggy) and the views are very good. We did the walk again - quite a short walk around 600m each way. Some war history at the end. Unfortunately this time we didn't see the elusive green parrots that we chanced... More

Set ourselves up at a picnic table, ate our “brunch”, took some photos, and watched the flight from Auckland on final approach and landing. A very pleasant relaxing... More

As with most of Norfolk Island, the scenery is amazing. While you're there go for a walk along the ridge, a nice walk with a bit of WW2 history thrown in.

Wow, what a view. A good drive up to the lookout. Highly recommend the walk between Mt Pitt and Mt Bates. 500 metre easy walk. We continued the walk from Mt Bates along the Red Road trail. Took us 25 minutes but would take you much longer to walk the opposite direction as it is mostly up hill.

This is the highest point of the Island and you get a good view of the surrounding area. It give you a good view of the airport, and the southside coastline.

It is not a very high mountain, but it affords you an excellent overview of the island. Great for getting a feel for the island layout.
