This is my craziest, coolest experience of all. It was so hard to get up there. But once you are there, you will never forget it. We had bunfire and suddently we heard the biggest sound. The volcano next to us was erupting with lava running down. It was... like nothingelse I have seen. Advice: bring warm cloths and dont... More

We have just come back from a 2-day/1-night hiking trip to the top of Acatenango under the wonderful guidance of Guilmer's team/family. We are a family of five, including 3 kids from 4 to 13 years of age so we needed to ensure the maximum of fun whilst ensuring safety for all. Guilmer provided exactly that - before, during and... Booked with Gilmer and his family took a group of 10 up to the summit and it is absolutely exhausting. First two hours are uphill gravel, 2 steps forward 1 step back, continuously uphill and then stop off for lunch. Then just as we were about to start one of the hardest bits we had to carry our tents with... More

I went to Guatemala for a 4 day weekend just to hike Acatenango and the experience exceeded my expectations! The hike is a bit challenging by totally doable if you are some how fit, I would suggest proper shoes/clothing for a more comfortable experience. I originally thought of using ox expeditions for their good reviews but thanks to Tripadvisor ended... More

I have climbed the Acatenango in 2013. To get to the top it was 4 hours 45 minutes. Now, in 2017 from below than the normal tour begins, I could get to the top during 3 hours 12 minutes. What is needed for tour? 2 liters of water, a bar of chocolate, special shoes, sticks, a very light raincoat and... More

I will repeat the same as many reviewers already said. GO WITH GUILMER! The price is a little bit higher than those offered in the city, but you will never regret spending that extra money. Guilmer is a special person who will touch your heart. We should have more people like him in the world. The money he collects go to... More

One of the iconic, famous hikes in Central America. Go with Guilmer and his family, as they are the most experienced on Acatenango (they are the ones who other groups call for rescue assistance if other hikers/groups get into trouble). Guilmer speaks English well, but many in his family do not (cousins, brothers, uncles, etc.). Due to the language barrier,... More

We booked our hike through Guilmer via WhatsApp after reading reviews on here and were so pleased we did. The hike was 300L whilst some friends of ours paid much more for a not as good experience. Guilmer communicated well and his driver picked us up from our air Bnb which was on the outskirts of Antigua at 7.15am. We... More

We did Acatenango with a local guide called Gilmer. It was 300q per person but you are in the savest hands the whole time, surrounded by guides that will wait for you and give you moral support when needed. The hike is pretty challenging at times but totally worth it for the incredible view! Once you get to base camp,... More
