This is a beautiful centrally located shaded park full of vendors which is the good news and bad news. We met here as part of our Blue Planet Tour after a two hour bus ride from our cruise ship docked in Puerto Quetzal. The park is a good jumping off point for a stroll through the city visiting the sites and eating some great local food. The vendors in the park are plentiful, but a bit obnoxious as there are so many and even when you’re in a group they surround you and won’t leave you alone. I recommend a visit to the park as it is shaded and there are places to sit, but be prepared for street vendors all over you! …

At its sides, superb colonial structures, such as the "Catedral de San José" (sided by the ruins of the old "Catedral Primada de Santiago de los Caballeros"), the "Palacio Real de los Capitanes Generales" (the former headquarters of the Spanish government for all Central America), the "Palacio del Ayuntamiento" (the City Hall), the "Portal de las Panaderas" (with historic buildings and old houses) and the "Museo de Santiago de los Caballeros" (the local museum). It is impossible to miss "Parque Central" at any visit to Antigua. Famous "Arco de Santa Catalina" and the impressive "Iglesia de la Merced" are just a few steps away. Enjoy!…
