Amazing Views of Guatemala. Recommend doing it on Horseback. Roasting Marshmallows on the Volcano was a first for me. Volcano rumbled a few times.

This was a good bit of exercise, but nothing spectacular aside from the views at sunset. Very dusty all the way and very windy at higher levels. The pace the guide set was fairly brisk, but we went at our own speed which was fine....More

Check whether your tour to Pacaya actually climbs to the summit of the volcano or whether you are just taken to the lower slopes of the mountain. This is a pointless and pathetic journey, although on a clear day you can see the path climbing...More

I hiked Pacaya with my 12-year old son. It is a good elevation climb, but short, only about 3 miles round trip. I am in good shape and had no problems. My son struggled just a bit in the last 1/2 mile of climbing. The...More

I did this with several friends that are not hikers. They hired a horse at the bottom and rode up to the top. The top gives you a view of fresh lava fields. The guide we had was good and the boys with the horses...More

It was rated as difficult, it was a bit long to get to the top, hard walk, but worth the trek. The views were awe inspiring. We saw the huge lave field, the lava store, had the option to roast marshmallows over the lava tube....More

Absolutely do the sunset hike at 2 pm. The view as you descend the mountain is incredible and really one of the best experiences I've ever had. The hike is a couple of hours up, so not too bad. 100% worth it. If you go...More

Cruise excursion from Puerto Quetzal. First time to Guatemala and time was limited. The guide on the bus was informative but the guides at the volcano didn’t speak English, so we didn’t learn much. The scenic views depend a lot on the cloud cover. Don’t...More

Sorry for not answering fast, I just saw the question now. I apologize... When I went to Pacaya Volcano, it was active, and erupted like 2 years before my visit, but, I felt the hot of the lava underneath the black stone... More
