Great hike and not all that hard even if in the beginning I thought I would die. As you ascend you hear the volcano and that's pretty magical. We paired it with a stop at the thermal spa, that was divine and if you have the time it's a great combo.

I climbed picaya with a group from el hostal. The ride there was longer than expected (1.5 hours). The hike was fairly easy. We were going at a slow pace and stopped often. We were lucky that he clouds cleared at the top. Originally we had only 10m visibility. In the rainy season you oukd be disappointed with the view... More

Pacaya is advertised as one of the slightly easier volcanoes to climb in the region . Due to time constraints we choose to visit a Pacaya for that reason. After an hour or so drive from Antigua we arrived and the hike itself although steep in parts is not overly demanding . You get to hear and see the peak... More

Volcán Pacaya was a fun hike with nice views, and MUCH less strenuous than the two other nearby volcano hikes (Volcán de Agua and Acatenango). This means that it's definitely more touristy, but it's still fun. You can also bring marshmallows to roast over openings in the hardened lava, which was a first for me! All in all, it's a... More

Once you arrive to the entrance of the park, the scene does look a little chaotic with horses ready to go, children waving hiking sticks to purchase, and just the general everyday life of a small village in front of the gate. If you don't already have a hiking stick (even if you consider your knees, ankles, etc. in good... More

I climbed Pacaya with two girlfriends and a hired guide, it took about a half day from the time we got back to our hostel in Antigua. This is a fairly steep climb, and the altitude had us breathing heavy but getting to the top was well worth it. The views were spectacular the entire way up, we even saw... More

All the reviews that I have read before our trip were few years old and described the red rivers of Lava. So climbing for 3.5 KM in 90 minutes and end up with black rocks & some holes that you can melt marshmallows in kind of disappoint me. It is nice, the view is impressive but I wouldn't consider this... More

We did an early morning hike to the top of the volcano with a fabulous guide. Roasted marshmallows on the molten lava, and saw some of the most breathtaking views ever.

The trip was organised by our hotel: USD 15 each including transport, guide and a bottle of water. On top you have to pay the entrance fee to the park : 50 Quetzal and if you are tired you can climb with a horse, you have to bargain the price. But once you are on the top it is worth... More
