Really, you need to enter through each and every gate to capture the beauty of each entrance and the history. The market is busy area on one side and if timed right its fairly quiet on the more historical side

Coming from the market this is the access to the fascinating old palace. Due to all the commercial booths, it is a bit difficult to get the atmosphere of the Roman times.

As you get near the gate the smell of lavender is everywhere. Just inside the gate is a lavender vendor who's kiosk makes the whole area smell so fresh. As for the gate, it is a stone gate... Part of the palace grounds and very historic but still a gate...

We walked past this gate 4 times. After we left our accommodation, we headed towards Diocletian's Palace. The Silver Gate was just 5-min walk from our accommodation, naturally that would be the nearest entrance to the Palace for us. The two days we were at Split, we only used the Silver Gate and Iron Gate, so we can't comment which... More

The walls of the old city have three gates: the Silver, the Golden and the Iron. All are must-see as part of your walking tour around Diocletian's palace.

We saw this gate on this tour on the outside and on the inside are stalls selling souvenirs. To me it was no more impressive than other entrances or other bits of architecture in the palace

Easy to access from the train station (100 yds), bus station (same) and from the cruise ships. There is an open farmers' market everyday - fresh pears, peaches and peppers! Antique stalls to get small knick knacks. The main rod is just 25 yds away. Had great fun.

This gate should not be evaluated on its own, but rather as an integral part of the amazing Diocletian Palace.

Croatia - the place to be. The entire Diocletian Palace is beautiful and certainly a place to visit.
