Due to its unique natural features, magnificent forests and extraordinary geomorphologic structures, the area of Velika and Mala Paklenica was proclaimed a national park in 1949. The main reason for proclaiming this area a national park was the protection of the largest and best preserved forest complex in the territory of Dalmatia, which was threatened by overexploitation. The Paklenica National Park stretches on the area of 95 km2 , on the littoral slope of South Velebit under the zone of highest mountain peaks Vaganski vrh (1752) and Sveto brdo (1753).

My friends and I had an excellent time hiking to the top of the Anika Kuk trail. My two friends are experienced hikers, while I am a novice. I had no problems with the first 3/4 of the trail (that was just standard hiking), but...More

Nice park, but we had a lot of people (we were in the high peak season...). Landscapes are really great. Half a day was not enough for us.

Dont make the mistake thinking Paklenica is anything like Plitvice (the warerfalls). Where Plitvice is full of busloads & busloads of high-heeled and flip-flopped tourists plodding round boardwalks, Paklenica by contrast is accessed by a steep and slippery 1-1.5 hr hill path. Views are staggering...More

Unlike it's more famous relatives (Plitvice and Krka), this national park is more like what you would expect a National Park to be - stunning unspoiled beauty available at a reasonable price for all to enjoy. It cost us 50 kuna each to get in....More

Nature is amazing and Pakleica National Park is the right place to experience the power of it. We have spent yesterday half day in walking around the Velika Paklenica valley up to Lugarnica cottage. Observing climbers in the rocky 'walls' we were enjoying in the...More

The park did not look special when we drove from Zadar but when you get in the views are simply amazing. Mountains rising thousands of meters above the sea and lush forests and wildlife. All above combined with very few tourists compares to other similar...More

So I accidentally ended up taking experienced mountaineers walk by waking to the wrong site but actually had the best time ever. A mix of gentle walk to practically 90 degree cliffs! Also river crossing and so much exploring. It was so fun we went...More

There's no lakes in the park. You can dip into the river or, even better, go for a swim in the sea, which is richt by the entrance.

Thanks, but a taxi for one for that distance is prohibitively expensive. For others, I've now answered my own question. The Zadar tourism office gave me the departing bus schedule to Paklenica Park (Starigrad-paklenica... More
