I had never really heard of the bay of Kotor until we started looking into Montenegro for a break. What can I say. It's like being in the Norwegian fjords for scenery the way the mountains rise so high out of the lake. Get yourself...More

We caught a local bus from Dubrovnik to Kotor for a day trip and the route takes you over the bay by Ferry on the way to Kotor and around the bay on the return trip. Very beautiful. I would do the trip if you...More

The Bay of Kotor is just beautiful set amongst the mountains on three sides. The mountains are covered with trees with houses set on the sides. Cruise ships come right into the port with the town within a 2 minute walk.

Visited Kotor on a recent cruise which was unexpected as we had the stop in Turkey cancelled, but was really surprised at how gorgeous it is. The scenery coming in on the ship was breathtaking. Had a nice 10min tender in from the ship, easy...More

The Bay of Kotor is simply stunning. I can imagine how grand if you sail in on a cruise ship (though they are a real pain when docked immediately in front of the old town of Kotor!). If you are driving, do the (very slow)...More

I am hoping to visit Kotor with family in Sept/Oct but would like to know a couple of things if possible: Does the area have alot of hills? Would it be a problem for elderly people? For reference, is it comparable to Dubrovnik for its hills? Is car rental necessary? Thanks in advance.

Around the bay is flat, but you would need a hire car or taxi. The Old Town is lovely and well worth a visit. The walk to the top of the walls is excellent but a bit of a climb.
We 4 have quite busy visits on other cruise ports but would like advice on how to experience some of the beauty of this town/area/bay in a relaxed way. What should we not miss out. We are there 14.00 - 20.00 in September.

Having driven the entire bay I would suggest focusing on Kotor itself. Saying you have only six hours I would suggest the old town, and then later in the day possibly a climb up above the town to the vantage point with the... More
