- Geraldine M5 contributionsGreat Boat tour of the BayRelaxing boat tour of the Bay of Kotor. My sister and I stayed in Kotor and decided our feet had enough walking, so we took a 2 hr boat tour on the bay and visited some of the busy tourist sites. We had a great time. I am not one to wander around old churches but my sister was. I could not climb up to 2nd stories or floors, my mobility was limited, so instead, I opted to stay on the boat and the captain & I had a great chat. I wish I could remember the name of thr boat tour but I cannot. Thr boat was easy enough to get in amd out of. Montenegro is a place for walking. I saw 2 people with canes, no wheelchairs, mopeds seemed to be comandeered by group tourists. If you're handicapped, it's a difficult country to get around in.Visited September 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 3 March 2023
- jaybeeFLPalm Harbor, Florida3,280 contributionsExperienced the Bay Two WaysWe were on an Oceania cruise and traversed this beautiful placid bay coming and going to/from Kotor. Passed by Lady of the Rocks at sunup and sundown getting spectacular photos. After landing we were transported by comfortable van along the shoreline road to Perast giving us a first hand look at the many sites along the way (fish farms, small colorful villages, scenic landscapes...) . Will remember this trip fondly and would hope we return someday!Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 5 May 2023
- PJD651,138 contributionsBeautiful……so a busy place!!The Bay of Kotor and the place itself is beautiful which leads to crowds and the nightmare of cruise ship passenger excursions. Take out a boat and enjoy the views but my tip would be to visit out of main season. I have been here a few times and late September/early October is my favourite.Visited July 2023Travelled on businessWritten 4 July 2023
- thatwatson@hotmail.com5 contributionsWell worth the visitBeautifully preserved ancient town. Lots of restaurants and bars within the Walls. Gets very crowded once the Cruise Ships pull in (right next to the Old town). When going for dinner, try to make it after 7pm, the boats have generally gone by then. HILL CLIMB..... Be prepared to pay 8€ each. If you get up and back before 8am, the ticket turnstiles are unmanned. Go as early as possible. The walk is shielded from the sun by rock walls beside the trail, but once the sun is up, the heat rises rapidly. The views at the top are spectacular, we'll worth the effort. There's a free trail too. Take the long straight road next to the Shopping Centre 'Kamelia' which parallels the river. At the end, behind a disused power station, you'll notice a zigzag trail. Take this. You'll pass a cheese shop etc on the way up. To get into the fortress, just climb through an archway.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 July 2023
- SnowyShastaPortland, Oregon2,120 contributionsBeautiful Bay - view it from multiple vantage pointsWe came to Montenegro mostly because of this beautiful bay. We were fortunate enough to stay in Kotor for multiple days instead of only coming for a day trip, and we had a rental car which meant we could drive most of the roads around it. The Bay and its surroundings are beautiful, with water and steep mountains and many quaint cities. The roads are often narrow and curvy, but the scenery makes them well worth it. We found multiple places from which to get scenic views, including roadside pullouts, the views from the car itself, and chances to get high above it (especially the serpentine road above Kotor). Kotor and its bay were definitely a highlight of our trip!Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 July 2023
- ALPORTAL9 contributionsMust visit location on the BalkansA must visit area of Montenegro or even on a day trip from Dubrovnik. The stunning views and numerous swimming areas make this one of the best tourists places on the Balkans and I am from another Balkan country. It is very beautiful to just go around the bay by car and absorb the atmosphere. Some of the small villages after Kotor are also a must with their picturesque boats and bays. Unfortunately getting to Kotos is rather challenging as the traffic is very heavy all day. From Dubrovnik with the customs checks, you need around 3 hours just to get there and that was with us leaving 6 in the morning.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 July 2023
- Alessandra FunciaArisdorf, Switzerland307 contributionsLittle care for waste in the town drives its value downwards. The bay is beautiful. With its high mountains and green till the sea, the color of the water ! However there is little to no wind given the bay geography. So be prepared for the heat. Also the sea water is quite warm given it is a bay of a bay. Finally and what concerns me the most is the level of trash found along the shore and in the water of the bay. Little care for waste in the town drives its value downwards.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 July 2023

The scenery is spectacular with the mountains, villages, and the famous Madonna of the Rocks Byzantine-style church on the artificial island. The topography resembles a fjord that you would see in Alaska or Norway. Don't miss this one on your next cruise, or if you can, take a boat ride from Kotor itself.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 September 2023

Loved the bay of Kotor. It was absolutely beautiful. We drove in on a bus which took a while and then jumped on a boat to our lady of the rocks and then onto Kotor. Loved the boat trip. Got to enjoy some time at the front of the boat to really take it in. The water and the views are stunning. Proper special place. Definitely get the best view from the water.

This fantastic place is very popular. We visited it by ship, it was a super one-day-tour. It’s the largest natural bay of the southern part of the Adriatic Sea. It consists of 4 parts: Bay of Herceg Novi, Risani, Kotori- and Tivati-. The length of the bay is 28kms. It’s really beautiful, I think everybody must see it.

Hi
Can anyone confirm the date for Boka Night please? I think it's in July or August? And also, is it the same date every year? Thanks

Boka night happens on the 3rd Saturday of August. It will be 20th August in 2020. Enjoy if you are planning your visit around this event but it is well attended so expect crowds.
Dear Martin and dear community. Im looking for advice regarding potential July 2020 stay in Prcanj, bay of Kotor. It will be our first visit to the country and reviews we saw look great so far.
We are the family of 4 with 2 kids ( 6 and 8 yo). We found nice apartments but we see on the map that there is only one road along a bay in Prcanj (Andriatic trakt) and there is no area for pedestrians over there. How intense is traffic over there and how safe is it to go for a walk along that road with kids? Apartments are on this road and just on the border of Prcanj and Stoliv and we like to walk so I would imagine walking to both directions..... Many thanks in advance...
PS also do you know if water in the sea is clean enought ( bay seems to be too narrow)..

The water is great. It's clean. I believe that the streams coming out of the mts. Plus the tides keep the bay clean. You can get around via boat if you're concerned about the roads. I don't know how wide the shoulders are in the area you're planning to stay. You could walk facing traffic & be careful with approaching trucks. Ha e fun.

Does anybody know which days cruise ships are in the town?? So I can avoid them. Or are they there every day? Thank you.

Cruise ships came nearly every day, atleast on June. And on Sunday there was actually two big Cruise ships at the same time. 😐

I'm looking for somewhere in the bay of Kotor where I can get an outdoor massage next to the water. I've found that some of the resorts have spas, but haven't found anything that is outdoors. Anyone know if this exists? Thank you in advance!

Yes lots of people selling tours etc the only thing we did was a boat trip over to the island of Lady on the Lake.beautifull and lovely story. Otherwise we just explored inside the old city wall. It’s truly beautifull.

There are plenty of boats doing tours from the town to the Blue Cave etc. If you walk along the port you will see many boat tour operators. Some only take 3-4 people some 10. There all small operators. I’m sure you could book if you searched Blue Cave tours from Kotor.

What is a reasonable amount to pay for a boat cruise for 2?

I don’t know because we were coming from a cruise, but we did negotiate with a taxi driver for a two hour tour on land for about 80E 1/2 price of the cruise ship!
