Having been taken there with pretty low expectations, it was, along with the teak bridge, a highlight of Mandalay. You start with huge chunks of jade, some of them with circles designated on them, to show where the purist areas were situated. And from there, you pass through parts of the market where the pieces are smaller, and then areas... More

This is NOT a real jade market, it is street-sellers flogging poor quality & over-priced stone/ rock rejects. If u cannot see such poor quality upon arrival, then u deserve to be ripped-off in the ultimate tourist-trap. Ask any local or taxi-driver & they will laugh in your face. Even the "jade-lights" are being sold for $20. Place is waste... More

I don't know exactly what i was expecting but the jade market is a must and very interesting. First you see the stones lade out for view and purchase by handlers. Everyone buying is shining a torch at the stone to see the quality, we saw stones worth $50'000 and the merchants were willing to explain quality over our guide.... More

The husband of our guide is a jade merchant and so she was as eager to show us the booming jade market as we were to see it. You have to pay an entrance fee to get in and beforehand you have a hard time finding parking - no matter whether you come by motorbike or by car. Once inside... More

Foreigners have to pay to go in the market but it's well worth while. There are literally hundreds of traders buying a selling small pieces of Jade. The place is dirty and crowded but this gives it it's unique atmosphere. Outside the actual market is just as interesting with enormous Jade rocks being traded and workshops cutting and polishing the... More

We hired bikes for the day from the hotel and cycled all over the city with a stop at the Jade Market. We found it fascinating with Jade in all sorts of states from rough rock to jewellery and people crafting it and wheeling and dealing. Its not really designed for tourists as its a business centre so don't expect (thankfully) people... Jan 21 We were at the Jade Market very briefly. A novice has no business here as jade trading and/or buying takes experience and knowledge. We went inside to a jade workshop where boulders and rocks of jade become finished pieces. All this is done with no power tools. They work with Dremel type instruments with dental bits. I learned... If you are into Jade, then you can't miss this. If you are like me who don't know anything about jade, this is still an interesting place to spend your morning - observing the locals appraising and trading stones, grinding and polishing them. It would be scary to purchase anything there. We simply look at one piece and the seller... More

Even if you don't appreciate jade, this place is interesting and fascinating for many. This is a very popular place among the tourists as well the locals. We went with a local guide, hence we knew what we were upto. This is a crowded, traditional market with narrow lanes; but not filthy. If you are serious jade buyer, this is... More

The jade market is very interesting with all the different processes of jade right there in front of you. We were lucky our guide Soe had actually worked at the jade markets so he was able to tell us a lot about the Jade Markets. We saw the cutting of the jade, polishing, sorting into different sizes and the selling.... More
