Visiting many sites in Myanmar through work and travel, this is one of the quieter temples I have been to. Maybe because it was low season, so the place was rather peaceful. The locals had picknick under the shady trees on the temple ground, and...More

This Pagoda is close to Mandalay Palace and definitely worth a visit. There are hundreds of small white temples each with an engraved slab which together make up the biggest book in the world! The main Pagoda is also beautiful.

Nearly alone here since it is low season and loved it. Stunning views which were unique from mandalay's other pagodas and temples. Know that they charge 100 kyat for parking a bike. Same as at nearby sandar muni. Go early to beat the heat for...More

Most of the big temples in Myanmar were like a maze or took us to some sort of journey... you walk and walk leaving your shoes behind and then you come across small alters every now and then after walking a while. Kuthodaw Pagoda was...More

I personally didn't love this Pagoda. Don't get me wrong, as with everything in Myanmar, it's impressive, it just was my least favourite. This could be partly down to the endless pestering of a local to sell me a postcard within the Pagoda, following me...More

I am planning to visit Myanmar in January 2017 and Mandalay is part of my target place to visit. I want to know what is that book like ? It claimed the largest book in the world. When I try to find out the pictures of that book, no one post .. Is this the real book or just complex everywhere like marble stone?

Honestly, it is so worth the trip!!! Every page of the book is on a marble slab sand every slab has it's own small stupa. It really is beautiful and it is so different from the rest of the pagodas/stupas you will see!!

Is there a fee? How did you get there? Is it good to have a guide for information?

There is no fee but there are women who "watch" your shoes while you are inside and you can give them a tip if you like. First time I went I had a guide which I found helpful, went back by myself just to sit and soak it up... More

Not sure, but 2-3 acres seems about right. Unless you want to actually read each tablet, there is no need to cover it all. We found a short stroll around gave us all the full ambience and insight into this extraordinary... More
