Description:

Tamarind Restaurant in Luang Prabang offers day and evening cooking classes...

Tamarind Restaurant in Luang Prabang offers day and evening cooking classes in open air pavilions overlooking lily ponds just outside of town. Participants in day classes are taken there after a visit to the fascinating main market, where they are introduced to the unusual and intriguing ingredients that are the basis of Lao cuisine. From there it is off to Tamarind Gardens to cook Lao dishes in the authentic Lao style. Evening classes are shorter. Individual work stations allow you to follow the instructions of an entertaining and informative Lao teacher, whilst a bevy of staff clean up after you. The sessions end with a sumptuous meal, where you eat the fruits of your labours! Transport to and from Tamarind Restaurant and recipe book all included. Vegetarians welcome.

I did the full day class which started wuth a tour or the market which was really interesting. We were then taken to the most beautiful riverside cooking school. The main courses were great, but I loved the dessert. Purple mango and coconut sticky rice! The staff are really friendly and will give you as much help as you need.... More

I wasn't sure how this day at the Tamarind Cooking School was going to go down with my teenage son... but he loved it... as did my daughter, husband and I! It started with a visit to the local's market. The sights and smells were interesting enough.. but to have everything explained added a depth that we all appreciated. The... More

We would highly recommend this cooking school to people visiting Luang Prabang. The premises were great - clean, well equipped and unique in an outdoor environment. The teacher was funny and the instructions were clear. The food we made was great and made use of cooking techniques unique to Laos cuisine. It was delicious and able to be adjusted to... More

Great cooking class with a very friendly chef - sit. Cooked about 5 dishes each and all enjoyed eating together as a group. Great way to get to know Laos cooking methods and recipes.

We met at the restaurant then were taken by mini bus to the market where many of the herbs and spices we were going to use were on sale. We were shown interesting things and some fairly gruesome bits and pieces of dried animal, we didn't use these. We then drove out to there beautiful cookery school and had a... More

I'd never been to a cooking school during vacation but my sister in-law suggested it. We all loved it, since the market tour in the morning till the dessert cooking. The cooking took place in suburban area with a lotus pound and farming plots, very lovely. The instructor was nice and the recipes were fascinating and also my classmates. 😀

Wow! What a beautiful setting! Wish I asked to take more time for photos of the grounds. It's absolutely stunning (about 20 mins outside of the city). The food we cooked was delicious. Fish was my favourite and learned a lot about local cuisine and coming styles. Chef was entertaining and incredibly talented. Dishes were harder than normal cooking class,... More
