Originally the clock was a gift from the emir of Qatar. As often is the case with gifts, particularly if they are sizable, the receiver sheikh Rashid did not know what to do with it. Eventually it was decided to place the clock on a tower. Bullard and Homzi were the designers. The tower was built in 1965.

This is one of my first memories in Dubai when I first came to this country
I really like to see the clock and make me feel happy when I pass this part of the city
Maybe because is the oldest part of the city and more full of stories
Will come back
This place is great for a picture as well

A good landmark for newly arriving or returning tourists and business people alike. The clock tower and fountains are on a roundabout in Deira and whilst lovely to look at are also good as a reference point. Also called Dubai clock tower and old Dubai clock tower.

It is nice to see at anytime, better to when the fountains are active, and best to experience in the twilight when the fountains are lighted up.

Ultimately this is just a Clocktower on a roundabout however the surrounding area is interesting and has an old feel. Built in 1967 I’m
Glad it’s stood the test of time and has not been tore down and re built like a lot of older Dubai.

A nice way to get a feeling of the Deira district is to walk from the Deira shopping Mall to Al Rigga Metro station. Underway you will pass among others the Deira Clock Tower, which is an icon for the Deira neighbourhood.
