The area
Neighbourhood: Al Quoz
Al Quoz sits literally at the halfway point between old and new Dubai. At first sight it has little to recommend it: warehouses and factories dominate the area, with some residential areas on the outskirts. Heavy goods vehicles roar up and down the roads and laborers stop at small hole-in-the-wall cafes for a cheap lunch. But it is fast becoming a magnet for art lovers: Alserkal Avenue is a significant contemporary art hub, home to 25 galleries and arts spaces, with ambitious expansion plans. The galleries host exhibitions, talks, panel discussions, auctions, and community events. If you love art, pass by to visit the galleries, it’s a great opportunity to get a sense of art and community in the region and to sit alongside key influencers and artists as they go about their day.

I bought a "18k gold" and "diamond" eternity ring from GB.one of the diamonds cracked, another fell out then to top it all off the ring split and inside you could see a core of darker metal.
I have a friend who has a lab back in the UK and he analysed the ring for me. .It was minimal gold and the diamonds were glass. I was really upset but now just feel stupid for being so trusting. It did come with a certificate of authenticity but what use is that with a piece of rubbish? !Thank god I didn't throw away any more money than the £650 I did that day.

We were in Dubai in June this year (i have just got round to putting on a review) and after a number of years trying to find a tennis necklace to match a tennis bracelet i have we saw one in GB Gems. We paid a substantial amount for the necklace and were looked after very well by the staff. The boss indicated that the value of the necklace would be considerably higher than we were paying. Since being back in England we have taken it to our local jewellers who have done a written report on the necklace stating how brilliant the clarity of the diamonds are and how perfect the cut of the diamond and to top it all valued it at double the price we paid. Excellent service, Excellent product, Excellent all round. These guys really know what they are doing!!!!!!!

We have recently returned from the Mina Salam in Dubai. Within the hotel is a small but very well stocked Jewelers (GB.palace jewelry LLC) from which we purchased a very special diamond ring for to celebrate our forthcoming silver wedding. The staff were very polite, knowledgeable and accommodating.Having returned to the UK we had the ring valued for insurance purposes to find it was actually valued at £5000 yes £5000 more than the cost of purchasing the item. we were obviously delighted by this news and would certainly recommend this branch of jewelers who i believe have 18 branches within the UAE.

We bought engagement ring in GB shop at Dubai Mall. After only 2 weeks, both our rings ended up totally scratched. We went back there, had the ring repolished and then remade but again same issue. As per their salesman, it is normal as white gold is weak and get scratched easily !!!!! Have been in a Jewelry in Europe for them to have a look at the ring and as per them, there was an issue in the making of the ring. Stll, GB tired to convince us that it was normal. Finally, got refunded but not the whole amount. Avoid GB, poor quality. As the previous review states, I am sure they mixed the gold with some minerals to keep cost low.

I bought a ring at GB Gems (gold souk), after two months, I lost the biggest diamond. I check other diamonds, an other was not very well setted. My advice: don't go there, they are not able to make a ring. Waranty is also very poor.

We went to Duabi this June and whilst we were there we bought my engagement ring from GB Gems, located in the Mall of the Emirates. We had spent 4 days searching for the right one and finally found one similar to what i wanted in GB Gems. The salesman advised us that he could make us one that day to our specification and within our budget and deliver it to our hotel that evening. We thought this was fantastic service and i was really excited, we handed over the deposit and left him to it. We then received a phone call 15 mins later from the salesman who told us to come back to the mshop as he had just had a delivery which included a ring that was identical to what i wanted. We went back paid for the ring and left very happy!!
When we got back to the UK, we took the ring to a local jeweller to have it valued, for insurance purposes and also to see if we had got a bargain, we had! It was worth well over double to what we had paid for it.
2 weeks later after wearing the ring a claw that held the centre stone snapped, i took the ring to a jeweller to repair, where i was advised that the supposed 18ct white gold was not so, it was white gold mixed with minerals and this made the metal very weak. I was told that this is a vevry common thing to happen in Dubai, they filter down the gold to keep their costs low, but at some point the metal will break.
I have now had to have the ring remade in the UK with the diamonds from the original.
We were also told that one of the diamonds in the band was broken to make it fit in and sealed with glue, which you could not see until you looked very very closely!
SO, shoppers, beware when buying from GB Gems and any other jeweller in Dubai, you may be getting a fantastic deal on your diamonds, but the gold is worthless.
