The area
Neighbourhood: Jumeirah
Years ago, before the skyscrapers, before the 12-lane highway, there was only Jumeirah. In fact, when the UAE was formed, its rulers signed the agreement in Union House, at the very start of Jumeirah Beach Road. Often called “The Beverly Hills” of Dubai, a drive down Beach Road reveals one enormous, lavish villa after another. Originally residential-only neighbourhoods, they are now also home to an array of cafes, smart boutiques, and art galleries. Home to one of Dubai’s few public beaches, this recently renovated area includes a new boardwalk, running and walking track, with changing facilities and cafes along the way. Another landmark, Jumeirah Mosque, is the only mosque in Dubai that can be entered by non-Muslims. As part of the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, the mosque hosts regular tours and talks about Islam, as part of an “Open Doors, Open Minds” program. A wonderful way to understand more about the UAE and Islam.

As the sun begins to set, the Dubai Canal comes alive with a kaleidoscope of colors. The surrounding buildings and bridges are illuminated, casting a radiant glow over the water, creating a magical atmosphere. The glittering reflections and shimmering lights create a mesmerizing backdrop for an unforgettable evening.

The Dubai Water Canal offers a peaceful and picturesque retreat right in the heart of the city. The well-maintained walking path, lined with comfortable benches, makes it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the stunning views.

A standout feature of the canal is the mesmerizing waterfall cascading from the bridge. The dynamic flow and ever-changing colors of the waterfall create a calming ambiance, while the soothing sound of water adds to the serene atmosphere. It's the perfect place to unwind and soak in the beauty of your surroundings.

Whether you're taking a leisurely stroll or simply sitting to admire the view, the Dubai Water Canal provides a peaceful escape where you can easily lose track of time. A must-visit spot for anyone looking to experience a moment of tranquility in the city!

The water canal is a calming place where you can stroll along its bank at your leisure. There’s quite a few benches on the walkway allowing you to stop and chill out. We purposely went there to see the colour waterfall that cascades down off of the bridge into the canal. There are lots of coloured lights on the side of the bridge that give the illusion the water is coloured when flowing. Unfortunately it only changed to purple whilst we were there, but pictures I’ve seen online show multiple colours. It was a nice trip out but there’s many better things to do with your time

An area in full development, beautiful for a walk in the evening. It is being built massively, so it will become much more beautiful when the constructions will be finished and the cranes will disappear from the landscape.
There are several embankments on the route, only one is active, the one called "Sheikh Zayed Marine Road Transport Station 74", and this one with restrictions, in the sense that the ships makes the trip on the canal only if a minimum number of passengers gathers (6, if I remember correctly remember...).

The Dubai Water Canal offers a great way to see the city on foot, bike scooter or boat.

There are wide walkways on either side which now include bicycle tracks linking up downtown Dubai to Jumeirah and the beach.

There are stunning views of the towers of Business Bay and the Downtown Dubai towers and plenty of food and beverage options along the way where you can stop to refresh.

Great for long walks/runs and bike rides. The Careem bike station is literally around every corner. We spent an evening cycling from Safa park to Meydan, great fun for a group of friends or active family and costs barely anything. One of my favorites in Dubia

A stroll or a walk down the large footpaths beside Dubai Water Canal is a fascinating way to see the city. The canal runs from the bottom of business bay to the sea at Jumeirah.

It is great to see the iconic skyline over the water of the canal. There are also multiple cool bridges showcasing some great design. A boat cruise is another great option.

There are numerous cafes and shops to grab provisions.

Well worth a visit.

Dubai Water Canal is a lovely spot for a run/walk/bike ride.

It stretches all the way through Business Bay to the sea at Jumeirah and is lined with a well sized footpath.

Ferries and hire boats regularly pass by and are also a great way to see the city.

There is also a waterfall cascading from the bridge under sheikh zayed road which is illuminated at night and parts to allow boats through.

As you move into business bay, there are plenty of options to stop and grab a soft drink or a snack but less so as you move towards the sea.

A lovely part of the city...

Dubai Water Canal is a lovely spot for a walk or bike ride during the cooler months of the year.

The walkways are wide, well maintained and offer great views of the city. There is also a waterfall which cascades below the Sheikh Zayed Road/ metro bridge.

One can also cruise down the canal by boat throughout the year.

There are a number of cafe options towards Business Bay but less so towards the Jumeirah end of the canal, although they will presumably come as the area is further developed.

Unless you want a flat place to jog or cycle don’t bother. There is no peace and quiet, there are massive construction sites all the way along. Getting there was not easy from Business Bay, a nasty walk along main roads and the other end leaves you high and dry if you walk towards the beach. You are on a massive road system, no taxis will stop and we had to walk a very long way and find a bus stop. Maybe one day it will mature and transport will be better organised but I was very disappointed, hot, tired and unimpressed.
