In the historic district, the Abra Dock in Bur Dubai, is an affordable 10-minute traditonal wooden boat ride -- really a taxi. Take the abra from the Bastakiya side, look around the textile souk and the art galleries, and end in the gold souk. Used by 15-20 million passengers each year, the Abra Dock in Bur Dubai is a memorable cruise in the water.

You have not experienced "Dubai" if you do not end up crisscrossing the creek in an Abra. It is a short 10 min ride crossing the creek from either Deira/Bur Dubai or the other way. Gives you a peek into the history of what has transpired. Still used by a lot of locals, but you can see a large number... More

Abra rides are easily the best way to see the Creek (which is, in my opinion, the most interesting of all of the areas in Dubai) and they only cost AED 1. If you have the time, hire one privately for a longer ride - you won't regret it.

Not particularly exciting - it's just a dock. It can be quite fun watching the boats for a few minutes, but it's nothing special.

The Abra trip is a must to any one visiting Dubai. The boat trip is one for the experience and it only cost a Dirham. It's a real happening place and the Creek is filled with such boats. Great experience

Though there are other means of transport but still I am in love with this kind of boat transport, I wish I had a home on the other end of the river where I could ride every day....

After all the glitzy malls and shining skyscrapers, it is so fun to visit the Dubai Abras and take a cheap little cruise across to the Deira Spice Souk. I love that the Abras are not just for tourists, but used to transport people of all kinds across the creek. The view is beautiful and you get to experience a... More

Bur Dubai has lots of good hotels and abra docks are close by. he docks have the bur dubai meena mahal on one side and souks on the other. the ride in abra costs 1 AED . more functional than touristy. lots of small eateries and sheesha centers line the banks on bur side.

Spent an hour or so on a boat sightseeing on this lovely canal. Lovely lunch at the Arabic restaurant afterwards. All part of a flying visit to Dubai. I look forward to my return.

Staying in The Creek

Neighbourhood Profile
The Creek
The smell of frankincense hangs thick and heavy in the air, waves lap gently at jetties, and market traders call to passing tourists. The creek, originally the place where pearl boats docked and left on missions to uncover jewels from the deep, is where the city really began. The Al Fahidi District on the Creekside is one of the oldest heritage sites in Dubai, easily recognizable with its iconic wind towers, the original air conditioning. Home to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and the Dubai Museum, the old buildings also house a range of cafes, shops and art galleries. Often called “the real Dubai,” this is a wonderful place to lose yourself before catching an abra across the creek to the spice souk, where your senses will be overwhelmed with tastes, smells, and sounds.
