About
Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is one of the most captivating attractions in Dubai. Located at The Dubai Mall, the largest mall in the world, offering a memorable journey into ocean life. With capacity to hold 10 million litres of water, Dubai Aquarium is one of the largest indoor aquariums in the world and it illuminates the marvels of the ocean floor, showcasing one of the most diverse collections of aquatic life. Located just above the aquarium, Underwater Zoo brings visitors up close with penguins, piranhas, crabs, water rats, sea horses, jellyfish and plenty more. A fascinating new addition at Underwater Zoo is King Croc, regarded as nature's rare phenomenon and one of the world's largest reptiles - at over 5 meters long and weighing an imposing 750 kg plus. Underwater Zoo regularly hosts innovative exhibits. One such exhibit, 'UAE's Night Creatures' presents the experience of nightfall in the desert as creatures of the dark.

The area
Neighbourhood: Downtown Dubai
You can’t fail to miss Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. It towers over the city and resides in the prestigious Downtown development. Once an old army base, Downtown is now the jewel in Dubai’s crown, a beautiful residential and leisure area housing not only the world’s tallest building, but the world’s largest fountains and mall. Wide marble sidewalks are perfect for strolling, with restaurants, art galleries and children’s play areas. Specially commissioned sculptures line the roads and Downtown is often used as a canvas for modern art displays and community events such as Classic Car Shows and National Day parades. In the cooler months, cross one of the many bridges to the Burj Khalifa park and enjoy a picnic alongside residents and visitors, or enjoy a lunch or dinner watch the dancing fountains. Because of its mixed use, Downtown is a fantastic place to mix with Dubai residents and locals and watch real life unfold in a cosmopolitan environment.

- Robert P NLos Angeles, California2,414 contributionsSimilar to other experiences around the world, but just slightly more over the topUnderwater zoo is located in the Dubai Mall. You can pay extra to walk through a glass tunnel. Feed the fish. And even scuba dive inside. There are a lot of sharks. Pretty amazing to see them swimming in full view. Loved it.Visited November 2022Written 2 January 2023
- Draslam21Mauritius24 contributionsOverall average experience with familyThe high price that you pay does not include the entire aquarium experience. You just get the basic visit. Other things like submarine experience, penguin experience etc are at an extra cost. Finally you end up paying more and more.Visited December 2022Written 3 January 2023
- Shruti-PramodBengaluru, India145 contributionsEdutainment attractionThis is a 2 in 1 - educational & entertainment attraction. To fit this into a shopping mall is a novel concept. Spread across multiple floors, there is plenty of sea life (even a tunnel view) & even reptiles & crocs, birds & night time creatures like lizards & bats. Opposite the candylicious store, this underwater zoo & aquarium also has interactive displays to view info graphics regarding the sight, sound & smell of these creatures.Visited January 2023Written 5 January 2023
- Rejeesh SKochi (Cochin), India31 contributionsUnder water wonderThe place was very crowded during our visit, owing to the festive season. But the visit was worth every penny. The way they have maintained everything all these years is commendable. Saw some very rare sea species there which I don't even know what to call! Children will love the under water tunnel. The souvenirs they offer for purchase are too expensive, even after bargainsVisited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 6 January 2023
- pinir67Hod Hasharon, Israel427 contributionsAn average experienceThe biggest advantage of the Dubai Aquarium is the fact it is located within Dubai's largest mall. That makes it a great attraction for families or for people who want to take a break from the countless stores and endless shopping. Other than that, it is not at the same level as other marine centers I visited around the world. It is an average, pricy, and the only unique experience is the option to dive in the big tank. If you have kids and you need to kill a few hours and you're already in the Dubai mall - it is a great choice. Just check the package prices as each covers different sections of the aquarium.Visited December 2022Travelled soloWritten 7 January 2023
- Ravi RNew Delhi, India54 contributionsNot worth the priceFor the price paid, the wait in the queue, the low variety of species to see, it is not a must to visit. Even if you buy tickets online, if from third party, you still have to take the queue. It’s a well maintained aquarium but a relatively small one.Visited January 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 January 2023
- Buzznsmoo229 contributionsA great way to spend a dayAn excellent way to spend a day. We had visited the Mall before and seen the aquarium from the outside so wanted to see what else they had offer. There are loads of animals to see and an interesting tour of the conservation work they are undertaking. This tour is included in the basic ticket. Make sure you buy tickets in advance you will almost certainly save money. There are lots of extras that you can pay for, we didn’t do any of these and still had an amazing time.Visited January 2023Written 19 February 2023
- aisha cColombo, Sri Lanka48 contributionsNot worthy the priceWaste of money to go inside it but it’s way beautiful outside in comparison to the inside . Specially the aquarium Tunnel it’s smaller than the one in KLCC Malaysia.under water Zoo is the same for the basic tickets you can not see penguins either. Do not buy ticket at the entrance, Rather buy it online for very low prices it’s much cheaper.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 21 February 2023

You will be able to walk on a hanging bridge too. Plus, there are penguins too. Overall it’s a nice place to visit. Located inside Dubai Mall. It’s great place to visit with families. Kids would love this place.Visited February 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 23 February 2023

Walked past it loads of times and thought you could see it all from outside so why pay money to go it.
Buy inside is much better going under the tunnel is great.
Best part is the penguin cove. In the rest of the world you would pay 4-5 x the price of it to get a penguin experience, loved getting in the cold and seeing them up close.
Very glad they provided the jackets to keep us warm.

They have this rule where 0-2 years old don’t pay (my daughter just turned 2) so they let us through at the counter; but then, at the entrance a very rude individual told us to go back and pay for my 2 years old; made me follow him to talk to someone at the counter; waited at the counter, then the same individual made me follow him at the entrance again so I could wait for, what I believe was, a manager. After I waited, a very rude manager asked me to go and get my daughter so he could see her with his own eyes. That was the last drop for me. People need to understand that not everybody is trying to scam their way without paying! That everybody’s trying to get by and ultimately have a good time without being harassed and accused of being thieves basically. I told him that this was it! I refused to be shamed in front of people for one more minute, and to let me buy the ticket so these guys could stop wasting everybody’s time. After I got mad, then all of a sudden the manager became super nice and told me that my 2 years’ old didn’t need to pay. I insisted that after everything, I’ll buy my daughter’s ticket, just for them to leave me alone.
By the way $50 per person is a total ripoff (I paid $40 per person trough Klook): Only to see a couple fishes, 2 crocodiles and a few invisible parrots screaming for their lives in a super outdated environment. Believe me, the most beautiful thing is the huge aquarium wall which you can see from outside completely free.
Also, stop trying to upsell everybody with “extras” inside the aquarium for a “nicer” experience!

This was a really nice and massive aquarium, they had so many types of fish including massive sharks, crocodiles, penguins and even reptiles and Manta Rays. It takes about 2-2.5 hours to do everything other than the diving. We did the whole package except diving, which costed 299 AED so it’s quite expensive. There is not really food inside, just a coffee counter with ready made sandwiches so best eat before or after. It is very crowded. Overall a good aquarium, not the best Ive seen in terms of aquariums in general, but worth a visit if you like fish.

Having already visited the actual aquarium and zoo the last time we were here, we only watched the aquarium from the mall, which was just wonderful, as they were feeding the rays and the sharks while we were there.

Really disappointed - we went to get up close with the otters and holding their hands - this is apparently only available twice a day (not stated on website) and we arrived later and therefore missed it. Expected Penguin Cove to have included the Penguin experience- it doesn’t, none of which was made clear by the ticket office. Enclosures are small - particularly the penguins, tunnel is shorter than my local aquarium, tour haphazard and badly co-ordinated. Had been so looking forward to this visit and so disappointed in the experience.

Amazing staff. Very good value for money. The animals are very well cared for. I purchased the add-on for the otter, experience. I also purchased a diving experience in a cage to watch the sharks being fed. Everything was superlative. The briefing for the otters and the shark cage was very detailed and I could tell that the safety of the animals and myself was important to the staff. I was provided with a dive suit and diving helmet for the diving. I was allowed to buy a photo experience where the safety diver took tons of photos and videos and the staff then imported them directly on to my phone. The cafe was lovely and there were lots of nice options to eat. I was asked by several members of staff if I needed advice or if I had questions. I am absolutely in love with the otters. Shaking hands with an otter was the most amazing experience. I am going back later in the week to meet the otters again and to meet the penguins and the king croc.

Some very interesting fish to watch and also some excellent animals and insects on the upper floor. What really let the place down for me and my wife was how you had to keep exiting the place to then go to another part of it then have to re-show your entry ticket. It was also extremely difficult to go around the place in a co-ordinated fashion - more signs would have been helpful. Personally been to better Sealife centres, but interesting nevertheless.

Whilst the tunnel is in itself special it’s not exclusive in they a massive part of it is visible without a ticket.
The zoo is also good and I must say the tanks are all incredibly well kept and clean. Everything looked super healthy and happy

What do I get when I book the different encounters? I am particularly interested in Penguin encounter, Otter encounter & King Croc encounter.
What exactly do I experience and is it worth the extra charge?

I’ve read more than once and in more than one website that one does not need to buy a ticket to the Dubai Aquarium because it all can be adequately seen from the Dubai Mall itself.
Can this be true?
What do our friendly and helpful past visitors say about this?
Thank
