About
Mimicking a traditional Arabian bazaar, Souk Madinat Jumeirah is a popular marketplace in Dubai. It’s interconnected with waterways, lined with bars and bistros, as well as offers a picture-perfect view of the Burj Al Arab. Here, you can get adrift in a maze of stalls and browse everything from oud perfumes and glimmering jewelry to fragrant spices and Turkish pottery. You can also plan for an alfresco meal and soak in the good vibes outdoors.
That’s not all—the best way to admire the bazaar is to hop on a traditional Emirati-style gondola and sail along the tranquil waterways. – Tripadvisor

- Dave G41 contributionsJumeirah MadinatA quick chance to shop at this souk and a beautiful place to peruse. Wonderful facade as you enter, and once inside, it has an atmospheric feel. Good place to get your gifts and perhaps buy some Arabic clothing. Several places to grab eats both in and outside - Costa included. Outside there are several eating places and you can take an electric(?) boat around the surrounding waterway. Popular with tourists, there is a chance to take pictures of the 'old' and the new in one shot of the souk and the Burj al ArabVisited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 January 2023
- luxtraveller88161 contributionsWorth a visitHas something of a souk like atmosphere in a purpose built relatively modern pleasant setting. Quite a good selection of items on available including some better quality. Good choice of restaurants in the complex as well.Visited February 2023Written 5 March 2023
- Victor RDubai, United Arab Emirates74 contributionsOverpriced busy bazaarVery good location but overpriced and busy most of the time. Very touristic destination, close to Burj Al Arab, full of restaurants and coffee shops but still hard to find a good one. Nothing fancy, just a nice location.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 13 March 2023
- ruthandvernWilton, California15,442 contributionsInteresting take on an old themeThis was an interesting recreation of a souk, or bazaar - however, having been to the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul this is not that. It's a very upscale shopping center in an interesting architectural style. There are many and varied shops, some are quality. There are high priced restaurants on the canal.Visited May 2023Written 21 May 2023
- Christian RomerDubai, United Arab Emirates200 contributionsBeautiful areaIt’s so pretty here! The style is like a traditional souk, filled with stores (albeit at tourist prices) and restaurants. Lots of F&B options - overall quite pricey, but there are some more affordable ones as well. Most restaurants have an indoor and outdoor sitting area and the views are just gorgeous! There are a few spots where you can get a great view of the Burj Al Arab. A nice area to experience, very picturesque, but be prepared to spend a decent amount.Visited April 2023Written 7 June 2023
- ZoiDubai, United Arab Emirates14 contributionsMust VisitThe souq is impressive. The outside area mostly. It is good to walk around. There are several restaurants there. There is a paid parking but you can get it for free if you dine in. I recommend it for day and night since the view is stunning. I don't like that in some souvenir shops inside the souq the sellers are quite persistent trying to sell you stuff in a very high price in my opinion, since it is very touristic place. Of course there is no price on the products so they tell you what they want. The last time i visited there was one seller who was trying to convince me to buy something and he got very aggressive while i was politely telling him that i am not interested to buy anything. He sounded very rude to me and the other lady i was with. I did not want him to get in trouble and i did not report this incident. The seller was foreigner, and i understand that he wanted to make some money and he may had a bad day. However if you are not intend to buy anything i recommend to not even stop to see something especially if you are only ladies. Even though the majority respect ladies in Dubai and is safe for us, there are rare cases that some male for foreign countries don't really value ladies.Visited May 2023Written 7 June 2023
- NaxEngland, United Kingdom34 contributionsBeautiful but expected moreVisited in the evening it was beautiful but quite boring , quiet and not much to see unfortunately. Souk Al Bahar close to mall is similar and much more to explore and shop. Shops contained overpriced compared to the real markets. View of the Burj is only from one exit which was beautiful. Maybe during the day it may be betterVisited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 July 2023
- Fox Sake14 contributionsMadinat JumeirahThe Souk itself is quite small and sells mostly the same things mainly souvenirs of perfume , keychains, toy camels and bits of jewellery plus traditional dress. We took a boat around little Venice which is a nice way to see the sights and photo opportunities this cost 350 AED and taxi there and back about 50AED from where we were staying on the palm. All in all a good 2 to 3 hours spent. Other reviews talk about venders pulling you into their shops this is not true , they do ask but just say no politely and they don’t push it. We found the vendors polite and of good humour.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 7 August 2023

Very pretty mall set in a traditional style, loads of vendors and a variety of textiles, clothing and food item. Definitely worth the visit!

A civilized version of a souk. Very nicely arranged, the merchants are much less insistent and disturbing than in the classic bazaar. Many interesting things that you can buy from dozens of stands. A lot of very nicely decorated restaurants, where alcohol is also sold, making you forget that you are in a country where it is difficult to find something like this in a restaurant. The whole complex is surrounded by a system of canals, which you can ride on an abra, for a rather high fee.

We felt that they built this Souq to offer an experience to the resort guests nearby. It is very nice but is missing the authenticity the old Souq area offers. You can find quite a few souvenirs here and there are some good restaurants in and around this area. You can also get a good view of the Burj Al Arab from the side.
The area is not connected to the tram or metro but there are some busses that frequent the area. If you're taking public transport you can get off Dubai Mall of the Emirates Metro station and go to the bus area.

Dates and sweets shop with court yard at back of shop
We paid for 2 transactions which showed as 54.00 AED and 27.00 AED on the hand held card machine
Couple of hours later alert from bank showed a transaction from same shop as 720 AED
We went back to dispute the transaction and the owner said he didn’t know how to refund and offered us dates
He also said other tourists called their bank and their card got stopped
He obviously does this all the time
BE CAREFUL
DONT USE YOUR BANK CARDS HERE

Sadly we forgot to check the opening time and arrived about 9:20. If you’re getting public transport, get the Tram to the end (Al Sufouh) and then get any of the buses that go along the main road, before getting off at the Burg Al Arab for the customary photo opportunity.
The Souk was open, as were some of the stalls/shops. It has the air of queuing for an Indiana Jones ride at a Theme Park. It was kind of a win-win, as you got to appreciate the layout and design without being overly hassled by the proprietors and without having to spend excessively.
Would recommend if you have 90 mins to spare.

Decided to have a wander and then planned to eat dinner here.
As you enter it is cool and has a pleasant scent from one of the many shops selling some form of oud or smoking ornament
As you saunter there are plenty of shops and boutiques many offer traditional garb, some offer stuffed camels and souvenirs, many ouds and then Costa, Starbucks and Cinnabon..
If you come to door it likely takes you outside. There are great views of the surroundings including the Burj al Arab. We ate at the meat company where you sit outside on their decking with the Burj as the backdrop.
The reason I think this is average is because it’s a bit chintzy. Plus I paid £9 for a single scoop of ice cream in a cone and the same for a tall Starbucks.. way too expensive
Also taking a taxi back is a bit dangerous as they were parked in the middle lane of 3 and cars are moving around all over the place..
I am sure there are much better souks around and far less expensive

We visited the souk & I have to say it’s the best out of the ones we’ve been to totally stunning inside & lovely shop keepers who you can have a good laugh with . One of them dressed us in arabic costume . We bought silk scarfs & jewelry. It’s quite big inside too & air conditioned . Definitely going back & we will try the boats next time 👍🏼

Souk Madinat Jumeirah is beautiful. It captures the authentic bazar shopping experience with the benefit of being inside with a/c away from the summer heat. Wonderful architecture both inside & out with amazing views of the Burj al Arab to top it off. Also the abra boat tour is a must, you can thank me later 😊

Do you get free abra ride if you have a restaurant reservation for lunch/dinner? And does it have to be a specific restaurant?

I'm pretty sure you have to be a hotel guest for a free abra trip. You can pay for a full tour, cost is around 100 Dhs per person I believe. Hope this helps.

Hi
I am looking to find out if it is possible to take individual abra rides in the Souk Madinat. From the information I can see online the abra’s are described as 10 man seatings. Is it possible to take an abra ride with 2 people only? And if so is there a price and how would I go about booking?
Hello,
Please take note of the Abra tour options and yes you can be only 2 persons.
