We viewed the Schafberg Cog Railway at the beginning of the year on a TV Show "Greatest Trains Around the World". As we were going overseas later in the year, I booked a night at the Schafbergspitze Hotel at the top of the mountain, so...More

Tickets were 35 euros each for adults. We sat facing the engine going up and sat by a window. Gorgeous views all the way up. It got pretty warm inside the train and it was quite cool when we got off at the top. It...More

Yes, the views at the top are beautiful, just like all the reviews say. BUT my review is about "what to do" or more importantly "what not to do" What is not beautiful is the chaos of getting back on the train, there is no...More

The train is fun but the most impressive part is the Breathtaking view at the top of the mountain. You may want to spend 2-3hours or more there if you wanna walk more trails.

The cog railway is terrific and you can get a ticket that combines it with a cruise on the lake. The day we went up the mountain wasn't real good weather wise. Cloudy and cool so as a result we weren't inclined to hang around...More

I found the best way was to ride up and walk down which can be done comfortably inside 3 hours. Take time to visit the cafe on the top. The train itself is really popular with tourists.

We went on what turned out to be a glorious September day, not too many people. The views are fabulous, on the way and at the top. But do remember that when you get to the top, you have to 'book' your seat to go...More

The Schafberg Cog Railway is a good tourist destination. A small steam engine pushes several passenger cars on what I believe is a 6 mile ride up the side of a mountain on a single rail. There are several points where the train may have...More

Bit pricey perhaps but a fascinating journey to the top which affords wonderful views over the Austrian Lake District. You can see at least 6 of the lakes from here.
