This day out was organised through our UK travel company as we always enjoy seeing bird life. It was an early start which was good to maximise viewing of the birds but a major limitation was our guide's English which often made it impossible to understand what she was saying. It was lovely to see all the children paddling themselves... More

This is the real floating village near siem reap. You have to travel a long way from the city in order to see this and you have to get up early to reach there before the sun reaches its peak. The feeling is amazing and the boat ride is wonderful. This place was suggested by Batman Tuk tuk who told... More

We visited in mid-August before the wet season had really started and the lake water level was quite low (according to the locals). We were driven, over a pretty rough rough, from Siem Reap to Meychrey port, down a canal and past Meychrey floating village out into Ton Le Sap lake and across to Prek Toal village. This took about... More

It is not easy to reach Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary. It was "low water" season, so first a tuk-tuk ride over incredibly bad dirt roads to the boat landing. Then via the Meychrey Floating Village, over Tonle Sap Lake to the Prek Toal Floating Village, where the office of the management of the Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary is situated. Here... More

My son and I are from a city in which we rarely can see birds. It is really amazing to have seen 37 species of birds in one afternoon by strolling around the Lotus fields. The guide has a very strong eye sight to spot the birds and tells their names. He shows us the bird at his strong binoculars... More

Keen to see something different other temples we made the mistake of organising this whole day trip to Prek Toal via the floating villages when we visited Siem Reap last September. At that time of year there is a lot of water and virtually no birds. After a long monotonous boat trip, we eventually climbed up into a tree hide... More

We had an almost identical experience to that of Ian J on 2nd March. The birdlife was fantastic, amongst the best we've ever seen and the floating village was fascinating. The children were lovely and frantically waved at us as we passed by. We found the journey however somewhat gruelling with the bumpy road and the noisy boat which did... More

This is a description of four very amateur birdwatchers visiting Preak Toal.  It may seem I'm criticizing a lot here, but I write this so you know what to expect, actually we thought it would be much worse, didn't know if we would find somewhere to sleep at all... So since the tours from Siem Reap are so expensive and... More

If you are remotely interested in seeing some of South Est Asia's water birds, this is the trip for you.It involves a pre-dawn start from your hotel, and in dry season a rather bumpy drive along a dried out canal bank to get to enough water to float a boat , passing a modern Wat en route . The interest... More

We sailed through the sanctuary on our way to Siam Reap from Battambang along the Sangker River. We saw so many birds. Blue-tailed bee-eaters were flying all around us! Swallows, whiskered terns, cormorants, darters, pond herons, drongos, egrets. Whole flocks of wooly and painted storks flew overhead, with a few pelicans in tow as well! Plus the fishing villages are... More
