This is possibly one of the most amazing temple complexes in the world.
Give yourself plenty of tiem as the whole site ciovers a good few square kilometres and you need to pace yourself.
Wonderful!

It’s Angkor Wat
5 star
Go for yourself you won’t regret it.
Nothing on the television will get close to actually going there

It's definitely worth a great place to visit! We have seen its pictures on internet but we had been so supprised when we were here. We wondered how they can make these ourstanding temples with unique sculptural decorations. We had only 3 days in Siem Riep and we hoped we could have a few more days. Highly recommend you to buy 2 days tickets!

Angkor Wat is a magnificent temple complex that is truly a sight to behold. Its stately towers and spires reach to the sky, and its splendid walls are adorned with stunning bas-reliefs and carvings. It is an awe-inspiring place that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Angkor Wat is just amazing! It is one of the most epic places I have ever seen and it does make sense to go there for sunrise, it is truly unforgettable!
Angkor Wat survived all wars in its nearly 1000 year-old existence seemingly undamaged, which makes it one of the few places in ancient Angkor so well preserved. Seeing it for the first time is a once-in-a lifetime event, no matter if you are a architectural expert or a day tourist. :)
Make sure to give Sa Met a call or message if you are looking for a reliable, welcoming and super-friendly driver to transport you from Siem Reap to Angkor Wat and the other temples. :) His driving made our 3-day trip to the Angkor Temples even more special to us, because we could follow our own pace. He always waiting for us to come out of a temple a go to whichever we wanted next. Also he provided water and refreshments. Definitely perfect for travelers who like to take time and not hurry through the temples. You can reach him under +855 12 860 842

Its stately architecture is a testament to the grandeur of the Khmer Empire. From the intricate carvings and bas-reliefs to the towering spires and majestic galleries, every inch of this majestic temple is a marvel to behold. A visit to Angkor Wat is an experience that will stay with you forever.

I took an organised trip of the temples of Angkor Wat and this was the first place we visited. We arrived well before sunrise and after purchasing tickets, which cost $37 for a day pass, we were driven to the site. It was very dark when we arrived because if was about 5.30am. First we had to cross a man made walkway which is like standing on thick sponge. We made our way along the path to the site of the temple and stood some distance from it waiting for sunrise.
There were lots of people in front all trying to get a spot where you can photograph the temple and catch its image in the water ahead. Once the light emerged there we all were snapping away, before we retreated a short distance so we could observe the sunrise over the horizon. As the sun came up the enormity of the site came into view. It is magnificent and I would have paid double just for this view.
After further pictures our guide took us over the bridge to the temple entrance. We were shown wall carvings and other items and the guide gave us a description of how the site was initially a Hindu site which then transformed into a Buddhist temple. There are parts of the site where you can see the Hindu gold and others displaying the Buddhist red.
After walking round the first level, we walked up towards level two where the guide gave us further details of the site. After that we were provided with the opportunity to head to the top level. Now access to this level is up about 45 very steep steps with a handrail at the side. People with a nervous disposition or those with walking difficulties may find access to this part tricky. Because, once you get up there you have to come back the same way down steep narrow stairs with only a handrail. In cold and wet weather, without sensible shoes this could be a nightmare.
After some time on the top level the guide took us round the back of the second level where we could get more pictures and he also showed us the centre of the entire complex. There are ruins of empty pools and there was also a space for people to pray. We then made our way back over the bridge towards the entrance where we could get a clearer view of the man made walkway.
You can run out of superlatives to describe this place and it's easy to understand why UNESCO made this a world heritage site. Visitors should just remember to dress respectfully as there are limits to what you can and cannot wear, have comfortable shoes on your feet and try not to have a fear of heights if you want to see the vastness of the site from the very top. In summary, the title of this review says it all. It's one of the most beautiful sites on the planet and worth every dollar.
A great big thank you to the driver who kept us supplied with water bottles and to the guide, Sen Prourng, who gave detailed explanations of everything and took lots of pictures for us. We saw four temples in all. See my separate reviews on the places we visited on the tour. An unbelievable experience.

On day 3, will you go back to Temples or start back to Bangkok? Roughly what time would we expect to get back to the city?

Yes, there is one area with steep steps at the back of the compound in which you can see the view from the top, but it is in no way mandatory to do. The steps up to the first floor if I remember correctly are a little high but are in no way near as challenging as the ones I mentioned previously.
Also, you don't have to necessarily go inside the compound as the walk around it is plenty beautiful as well. There are quite a few gorgeous temples in the immediate area that don't have many steps either like Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm.

Has anyone visited more recently than Graham G below? Whilst not wanting to scaremonger I do worry about being packed into a crowded tourist site with visitors who may have come from countries where Coronovirus is prevalent. Very grateful for an update on bio security at the site from those who work there or who have visited in the past few days.

Hello, we’re just there yesterday. Empty sites everywhere. You will still encounter small handful westerners tourists and asians. We took lots of good pictures with blank (no tourists) passing behind you. Still take precautions, wash your hands often, sanitized your hands/ lunch table/ utensils.

hello! i'm wondering if there are any sources of running water in angkor wat to refill water bottles? we'll most likely be using a UV filtration system to prevent the water bottle trash. thank you!

We did 3 temples in one day and that was a good taste of that experience for us. $100US for a driver and guide, air conditioned car and water. The admission fee is $37US per person.
Hi, when did you travel to Ang Kor Wat? If on Feb 2020, how was the situation there after the CoronoVirus outbreak? Do you feel still safe to travel to Cambodia? Please advise as we had booked everything last year for next week travelling but still thinking whether to postpone or cancel the trip.

We went Monday for 1 night...of course the outbreak is still apparently fast moving but we saw few signs. We're back in Thailand now and face masks are much more in evidence here. Angkor Wat was packed with visitors from all parts of the globe with no suggestion of a slow down. We were fastidious with hand wipes etc as per normal when handling cash etc We passed thru temp scanners at both airport and train stations but that's all...enjoy!

I hear the Northern reflection lake (for the classic + best sunrise shot) is currently closed (Jan 20). Does anyone know when it reopens??
I see the shots from the alternate Southern lake are OK but not so good. Am thinking of not bothering with the sunrise if its still closed when we go. Thanks in advance.

You're not guaranteed the iconic photograph as even a light breeze disturbs the pond enough to destroy any reflection.
