This Plaza marks the city’s historical heart and symbolizes the heritage of the hardworking people of Chile’s Magallanes province. The plaza is surrounded by many magnificent mansions, there is a statue of Magellan at it's centre, lovely paths for walking with shade provided by the many cypress and birch trees, and an artisan market.

Ok to walk around & have a look. It's not the most beautiful place in Chile but there's enough for a few hours' browsing. The plaza is small & leafy, close to the shops. The statue is in the centre of the square. Make sure you rub his foot if you want to return too the region one day. Lots... More

Visiting on a cruise, we took a trip to the center of town. It is a lovely square. We were able to get Chilean pesos nearby. There are handicrafts on sale around the plaza. It is a good place to start a look around town.

A pleasant area to spend some time relaxing and taking it easy, statue of Magellan and the Indian who's foot you are supposed to touch (not sure Why?). you can plainly see it has been rubbed by many people, lots of trees, flags and souvenir stalls

It's a nice "Plaza de Armas" with a good statue of Fernando Magellaes - who else! - in the middle. Some of the most impressive buildings of town surround it, including the cathedral and the house of the once richest lady in town, Sara Braun, which is now a hotel, When a cruisship is anchored, numerous tourists gather here...

Nice for a stroll and take in some history. Small stalls with local souvenirs along one side. One of them had skeins of local wool. Mounted police patrolled the area and it seemed more for the tourists than any problem.Quite a quiet unthreatening town.

Went there a couple of times on our visit. Vendors are nice. Got some good local souvenirs. Surrounding buildings are neat as well When we were there! They had a military presentation and flag raising. Very interesting. Made even more fun because a tour bus was parked in their way. The military pushed it out of the way and had... More

Since our tour to isla Magdalena was cancelled due to strong winds , we had to find alternative activities for the day. At the plaza the tourist office staff was very helpful in helping planning the day. Nice to spend some time at the plaza with all the locals between the souvenir stands and he statue of Hernando de Magelhanes.

This Plaza is the heart of the city , surrounded by beautiful historic buildings( Palacio Sara Braun, Town Hall, Cathedral). It is well maintained from early on by municipal workers. Great people watching, shopping at the stalls, visiting surrounding buildings.
