This is a really special part of the wall, and really worth taking the time to visit. We were delighted to be there with very few other visitors. We could have a relaxed look around, and take great photos. We caught a high speed train from Shenyang to Shanhaiguan, which took about 2.5 hours. From the train station you can... More

Shanghaiguan is the easternmost outpost of the Great Wall of China. It was built during the Ming dynasty in the XIV century. Currently it is located in the popular tourist destination of the city of Qinhuangdao. Wall, as if emerging from the sea. And this part of the wall resembles a dragon's head. Therefore, this part of the wall is... More

I went to Shanhaiguan for the Mid-Autumn Festival Holiday. I will start by saying, this is a true Chinese tourist area, though there is English descriptions under most signs, you will see few if any westerners. That said, it wasn't nearly as crowded as other touristy areas I have been to in China! Laolongtou is a nice place to spend... More

This was one of my favorite spots in town. The section of the Great Wall is small here but it's right on the beach so makes for a lovely visit. They also do a good job of displaying some rooms that would have been used by soldiers. I easily spent an hour walking around the site and could've spent more... More

Walk along the beach for nothing and be free of the crowds- save your money. The 25 bus 1 yuan goes from the railway station or the South Gate of Shanhaiguan.

This place had been on my travel hit-list since I found out about it, so I was pleased to finally make it. The attraction is a huge draw for the area, so we got there early to try and beat the crowds and whilst it wasn't jam-packed that early, it was already getting busy. Entrance costs were reasonable, although there... More
