Was visiting the Islamic section of Hohhot and went to the mosque during the adhan (call to prayer). It was very peaceful and I felt very welcome. The people there were very friendly and the mosque was well maintained. You should walk the grounds if you are in the area.

The area is interesting and so is what you can see of the mosque. It is not particularly beautiful, however.

Beautiful architecture mixing the Islamic and Chinese styles. It is right in the city centre and surrounded by other Islamic style buildings. A lot of halal food shops right in front as well.

Hidden behind a small gate (I too thought it was the brash white one on the corner which is actually a club) is the small alley that leads through to the mosque. It's beautiful architecture is worth the visit, won't take long as you can't enter the prayer halls. The minaret is stunning. Surrounded by very vivacious muslim food shops... More

This was one of my favorite places when I lived in Hohhot. It's actually surrounded by amazing restaurants and bakers, which is a big part of the appeal. You must try the sweets! I remember these little balls with a core of mashed dates, covered in crushed peanuts. Also great La Mian, freshly roasted chestnuts, etc. One thing that stood... More

A mosque that shows a mix of muslim with Chinese architecture. Nice place to visit. Architecture is unique.

Had some trouble finding the place, it's actually discreet in its entrance. At first we thought the building next door was the one! It's quiet, most of the buildings are inaccessible to visitors so it'll take nothing more than quarter hour to look around. But worth a visit if you're in the area anyway, some great food on offer down... More

There is both a modern mosque and the original (late 17th century) one alongside it, built for the Hui Muslim minority people who came from Xinjiang during the reign of Emperor Kangxi. One can enter the original mosque area from the street, but most of the buildings are not open to the general public. Sometimes it is possible to climb... More

You can enter the mosque but not enter the prayer hall. It's very clean and quiet. Beautifully restored. It is the oldest mosque of the city and at the beginning of hui minority district.
