It was supposed to be the largest city square in world for about 1.76 million sq meter in total area. There was Xinghai Park nearby where locals could swim and visits the related theme parks.

Not bad place to visit, but nothing impressive. Typical coastal city atmosphere- a lot of attractions, far from clean beach. Nice view actually happens in the evening. Must visit as an important point in Dalian.
