For sure it is something unusual in Europe and it deserve a picture to be shown home to friends and colleagues. When I was picturing I was just wondering how come a communist murderer is still so loved by some... it is so sad!

Seems like a visit to Chengdu must include a visit here! Stop by and snap some group photos for sure. You can make this a 15- to 30-muinute stop at best, unless you plan to visit the Chengdu Museum, which would require much greater exploration.
Big proud statue in the city center. If you have not seen one of Mao before, sure ... if not, there are many much better things to do in Chengdu.
The statue is visible from around the city centre and is a key attraction in the city. It makes for a good photo opportunity from Tianfu Square. I recommend to visit after night fall when the lights illuminate the square and statue.
