I guess this is part of the old city wall, and the old street is just behind this tower, a vegetarian buffet restaurant is next to this tower.

based in the center of "old ningbo" it is rebuild as a shopping area. from time to time there are some performances on the stage shown on the picture. it is clearly a commercial are, but with some old style. If you come at the right time you can see the light-show, that is really special

The Drum Tower itself is neat but you only need a few minutes to see it. The surrounding area has some older style buildings but with renovated facades and such. You can also find most modern amenities like McD's, KFC, Starbucks... etc.

I have visited this street a few times and have come to the conclusion that it is ok, but nothing I would plan my day around. Mostly cheap little shops selling souvenirs n

I've been to a few of these "ancient" streets, towns etc. This one is the worst one so far. Okay the drum tower is quite interesting as there is a mixture of some architectonical styles... but the complex isn't interesting at all. There isn't anything special.... Only some teahops, restaurants, little stores and that's it... If you are around you... More

Compared to the Gulo in Beijing, this one is horribly commercial. Very busy and noisy with tacky shop after tacky shop. Go if you happen to be in the area but otherwise do not go out of your way to find it.

So so. This is just a mall street with some remaining old structures. I would not go out of my way for this. The stores are really not that good nor are the restaurants.

First, name. This area is "Gulou" which housed the city's drum, which was the traditional way to tell time. Many cities, Nanjing, for example, have "Gulou." Ningbo's Gulou happens to be very accessible from the "Gulou Subway Stop" At time of visiting it had a photo exhibit up the stairs featuring photos of Ningbo from 1950-1950. Unfortunately there was no... More
