Currently under renovation.

Really nothing to see at the moment (November 2017) because of renovations. Only reason to go here is for the amazing views in the cable car.

I would love to give this place a glowing recommendation, but unfortuntely there isn't much to see. The area is closed off, and the library is covered up as it undergoes repairs. I was very disappointed when I made the journey this morning. It's a shame because the site is beautiful, with a fantasic view into the valley. It also... More

Twenty years ago you wouldn’t adventure for safety reasons into Santo Domingo, the Comuna 1 of Medellin. Like in other “hot” comunas of the city (3, 4, 6, 8 and 13), violence generated by drug trafficking and other armed groups kept away citizens from visiting this natural mirador. Things have changed since the Metrocable was built to connect Santo Domingo... More

Go for the views of the city. The library is under construction -- looks like they're not only repairing the existing buildings but adding a third phase. The neighborhood is fine, and walking around a small perimeter area felt perfectly safe. I was with a group of 12 foreign university students and sure, we got some looks, but people could... More

The place is overrated. There is no question of its social impact, what is critical is the condition of the building. As a building is poor. The best library project is Parque Belen, but not possible to suggest.

As other have reported this is closed for renovations. Of course, the gorgeous views are still there. However the street leading to the library from the metrocable felt less safe than during my visit three years ago. Perhaps that is because there is a lot less foot traffic on it now. So maybe best to just enjoy the views from... More

The buildings of Biblioteca Espana is quite interesting itself and is located on a high hill with a wonderful view on the city and justat the place of Metrocable connection to parque Arvi. But nowadays it's closed for reconstruction and looks quite dangerous if you walk very close. But it will work for the lovers of abandoned places. And anyway... More

This is the last paragraph of the Wikipedia page for the library, "In 2013, the city government hired the National University of Colombia to conduct a study of the problems of the facade. In 2014, the study by the university was completed. The results said that damage corresponded to failures in the facade but not in structural core. This repair... More

Absolutely fantastic (and sweeping) views of the city of Medellin from the MetroCable ride between Acevedo station and the Santo Domingo Station, the closest to the Biblioteca de Espana (a donation from the Spanish Government to the impoverished comuna of Santo Domingo). The architecture of the Biblioteca building is very imposing and distinct, easy to spot from the base of... More
