You have to know where you are going to find this place but it's beautiful! Very secluded. My only recommendation is to not go during the heat of the day as you have to walk at least a quarter of a mile to reach the...More

Much like Ship Rock, I hadn't intended to visit this location until the next time I was in the US but it was literally just off the road between Durango and Santa Fe, so it was a no-brainer. And it actually IS tricky to find...More

Drove out to see the Plaza Blanca...Directions are a must and a four wheel vehicle might be helpful to get close

All the reviews are right. This is a quite amazing place! Easy to get to but totally secluded. We spent the afternoon exploring the different parts of the area, including the little inlets which must get flooded pretty easily when the rains come. You can...More

We have often wondered about the white canyons and rock formations in some of O'Keefe's paintings. Although we had visited the area a few times and stayed at Ghost Ranch we had never discovered Plaza Blanca until this visit. What an extraordinary placy - white...More

We cycled up a rough 2 mile gravel rode to Plaza Blanca. A short downhill walk from the parking lot took us the the base of the cliffs. They are a marvel of nature. One section reminded all of us of Gaudi's Sagrada Familia in...More

I'm puzzled by other reviews that indicated this place is hard to find or inaccessible. To the contrary, it is a short drive on a bumpy but wide dirt road, then easy hiking to some of the best scenery around.

What a treasure of eroded volcanic formations. The canyon is a wonderful place to visit when the weather is reasonable (like we did in April). Those who appreciate the artistry and power of erosion will love this place. We were there midday, but morning or...More

More amazing Abiquiu scenery. Especially if you've seen O'Keeffe's paintings of the area. Since you are in Abiquiu, it's worth the short walk to the site from the road. (Always dirt roads in this area.)

Plaza Blanca is in Abiquiu. Maybe an hour or so from Santa Fe.

Sure. It's an open space and the car park is not gated. There is a mosque nearby and that requires an appointment, I think. But you can wander around and explore the area.

There are not trails, per se. It's private land and there are worn paths in the area near the parking lot but the rest is a clay wash and rocks. I've been there a couple of times and have seen dog prints, or possibly... More
