I will start with a quote from this Legendary Architect & Urban Planner -Le corbusier..."To be modern is not a fashion, it is a state. It is necessary to understand history, and he who understands history knows how to find continuity between that which was, that which is, and that which will be.'' Which is true after all these years... More

To visit the Capitol Complex, you must first get permission at the tourist information centre en route. Remember to bring your passport or Indian ID. NOT A COPY. No passport = no entry. Tours are guided. The guide explains the purpose of the buildings and allows you some time to take photographs. Entry to all buildings is prohibited.

To visit the capitol complex you need to get a pass and visit with a guide. We had difficulty finding where to go to register but eventually after walking around the court's we found the museum and they directed us to the visitor centre about 150m along the road. The tour takes you to the court building the hand and... More

I have a Master's Degree in City Planning and a real soft-spot for modernism, hence my interest in visiting Chandigarh, a planned city and unlike most of India, is only 60 years old. Many of Le Corbusier's theories have been debunked by history, but it is still worth a visit to try and understand what he was trying to do... More

Only 5 of us on the tour..and no official guide so our local city guide and one off the guards accompanying us gave us information. A real treat to be able to sit in the original Corbusier designed chairs in the Parliament. A delightful place to visit for any architect or architecture buff.

We made our reservation with the Visitor's Center arriving at our scheduled 10AM finding it closed for Bank Holiday. Determined to self guide our visit, we were confronted/refused by the prevalent Indian Army personnel. We did however receive permission to visit the Open Hand Monument. From here, we walked to the High Court, then up the center esplanade to the... More

Happily, it is possible to visit the complex and the visit takes less than two hours, keeping you at a distance of the High Court and away from some buildings. It is quite frustrating but gives an idea about Le Corbusier'style. There is a pre-registration process on a website, quite lengthy and fastidious. When we came in, we could not... More
