The temples were locked well after the sign stated they should be open. Stupas all crumbling outside. Relatively expensive entrance fee, obviously no used for restoring the once stunning wall paintings. All together found it drab, touristy and disappointing. Not worth the detour.

The market is lovely right outside the monastery and the murals are certainly the best in all of Ladakh.

A beautiful monastery, worth the trip. Do not miss it if you visit Leh. A sense of peace pervades the whole area and you learn a lot about Buddhism. This is one of the oldest Monasteries in Leh.
