We took the speedboat from Club Mahindra - a little pricey for the short trip but worth it. The boat driver will take you to the point where the lake joins with the Arabian Sea (under a bridge). That's the point where dolphins usually come to try and catch freshwater fish- according to the boat driver. We were unlucky and... More

We took a two hour boat ride on the Ashtamudi Lake. The lake is so named because of its 8 wings or arms. Our ride took us to one island on the lake where we had refreshing coconut water. Refreshing ride to see Chinese Fishing nets and enjoy the serenity of the lake

We went on this overnight houseboat with our friends, before they returned home. The boat which was beautiful reminded me of the movie Death on the Nile, and kept expecting Hercule Poirot to appear at any minute. The service on board was excellent, very attentive and nice. The food was adequate, not amazing, but I've had far worse. The bedrooms... More

Recently I had been to Asthimudi lake about 19 Kms from Kollam city. Went by town (private)bus. The long winding road is a characteristic of Kerala state. Actuall the bus took a circuitous route consuming about 40 minutes travel. The return trip hardly took 25 minutes. As we went in the evening on a cloudy day, the sky was not... More

A huge lake off the coast of Kollam, leading up to the backwaters. Ashtamudi is supposed to have 8 corners. It's really beautiful, the serene lake intercepted by Chinese fishing nets adding a lot of character to the whole place.

Traveled to CM Ashtamudi with my family. Took a 4 hr cruise on the lake in a houseboat. The views of the lake are lovely. There are fishing nets, huts and houses on the shore, vegetation and birds, all amidst the water. Weather being generous, we had a great time relaxing in the breeze surrounded by tranquility. Do this only... More

Took a Houseboat ride on the lake from the resort we were staying in. Lush green with water around. Houseboat experience was good though would recommend hiring one for the entire day and cruising at leisure. Visited some island between the lake as well. Cool breeze and soothing scenery are bound to relax even the worst stressed nerves!
