This is an interesting place to visit as it was built by two artisans and both built right and left half of it. Though at first glance one misses it but then you start finding that the detailing done by both artisans were different and both the sides though looking similar are still different. It is a née game to... More

From the fort hire an auto to reach this haveli. Ask the local people to locate the exact place. Without watching this haveli you can't assess the beauty of Patwon Ki Haveli.

What first struck me first was that the buildings were symetrical but closer inspection revealed that the brothers had stamped their identity on their facades with subtle variations to widow, balcony and door details. This family run museum sells competitively priced carved camel bone artifacts and much much more, unlike the overpriced Government shops.

The authenticity is the charm. The palaces are turned into tourist destination and heads up for archaeological and architect students.

Good carvings but one has to climb lots of stairs to see the haveli. Fees is also quite high. Advise to see it from outside.

The most interesting fact was that this residence was designed by 2 architect brothers. There are subtle differences both internal and external and it gives the impression was built off-site with the 2 halves stuck together. There is no doubt that the artisans employed were very skilful. After admiring the entrance we were ushered upstairs to meet direct descendants of... More
