While in Ooty, DO NOT miss this experience! Make sure to book your tickets in advance through IRCT. We booked our tickets pretty much in advance, and hence got the best seats of first class compartment, wherein we had a 180 degree of view. We could actually see through front as ours was the first compartment which had windows in... More

The Nilgiri mountain railway was an interesting experience. It's slow, fun and offers a great view! It makes it's way through vales and dales, mountain sides, small tunnels, providing it's passengers with a joy ride. The trip from Ooty to Coonnor is recommended. Published Train timings are not very reliable and is always advised to check with the station beforehand.

We took the evening train from Coonoor to Ooty. The experience is unique! Beautiful landscapes through out the trip. Tickets can be booked on irctc online and on the counter at Coonoor. Counter opens between 3.30-4PM. Queue starts at 3PM. Counter sells general seating tickets (10rs/seat in Jan, 2017). The train is quite crowded since there are standing tickets as... More

Don't miss this if you are in Ooty!!! A must travel journey. There are around 3 to 4 trains in a day and not all are reserved. Couple of them are unreserved and tickets issued just an hour before train departure, so don't disappoint if u don't get reservation.

WE did the hour trip down from OOty to Coonoor, nice trip. Great views. Pity the Windows hadn't been cleaned in 20 years, aside from that worth the effort. If you do the next section you get to experience a steam loco and a cog section of track.

I had wanted to go on this railway for the best part of 30 years and I was not disappointed. We had booked VERY early and so were in what I think were two of the best seats in the first carriage...so we could see what was coming up. There is a lovely feeling of community that develops with your... More

Well this is certainly quite an experience for me. Booked 4 first class tickets for the trip and will be remembering all my life. Beautiful valleys, tea gardens, hills, bridges to tunnels had everything. Its rightly called the UNESCO world heritage sight. The mere sound of the toy train whistle makes you feel to the old era. Must do when... More

This particular train is popularly known as Toy Train. This has become too popular because of various bollywood Movie scenes shooting (Fight scene of "Main Tera Hero" etc). This is what you can experience a marvelous example of engineering in old days too. Don't expect luxury in this train. Only basic wooden seats are there. Scenic beauty wise offer very... More
