Kelimutu lake is beautiful lake in Moni - Ende. If you plan to visit this lake better in the early morning, where you can see amazing sunrise and beautiful 3 colored lakes that believed by local peoples as lake of dead ancestors.

The volcano has three crater lakes which difference in colors.Their colors periodically and unpredictably change due to a chemical reaction, apparently independent from each others and from the volcanic activity. Between January and November 2016, the color of the craters changed six times. Kelimutu crater lakes change color for the 6th time this year.

A well-run park, they keep it quite clean, easy hike to see the lakes, and definitely worth the early rise to experience sunrise. We were lucky it was a clear morning. Unfortunately, there were a bit too many of the food vendors at the top, selling drinks and foods that just create too much waste.

Great experience to walk up to the crater for sunrise, even with the crowds. The lakes are a spectacular sight although they were all green when we went. It is quite a hike from Moni and we'd recommend a taxi up at least.

Unfortunately when I was here, the cloud was pretty dark but even so the view was still magnificent. It was interesting how these lakes have different colors; looking down on it I thought about how small we are as human in the face of mother earth.

Alas we did not see anything. Due to mist, rain and wind. That being said it is well worth the visit. Costs 150,000 Rupiah to enter the park.

The visit to the mount Kelimutu was a nice experience. Sadly we didn't get to see the third lake as it was in a cloud of fog, but it was still cool. And the kids loved the monkeys on top.

TThis is the only reason to get to Moni. We were in the rainy season, so we gor some morning rain and there were clouds, but nevertheless the sunrise was beautiful and the clouds drifting into the lakes have their attraction to. Do't skip this in any weather conditions, but bring a torch and a raincoat, tea is available at... More

It's worth waking up at 4:am for a 20 min drive to the car park followed by a 15 min walk to the summit. A beautiful sense of serenity that is a must do while in Moni.

Well worth the time to get to Moni from Ende (windy road). We didn't care too much for the sunrise (really, they are all much the same) so we left Moni at 5am but most importantly it is better to go up when the sun is higher to see the true colours of the water. We found the unauthorised view... More
