We did a sunrise tour of the mountain, which while impressive, was not unmissable. Seeing differently-coloured lakes so near each other is cool, and while it was the highlight of Moni, I still enjoyed Labuanbajo and its attractions more. Only visit if you're really keen on travelling across Flores.

Took a bus here and got dropped off in the town, conveniently right outside a guesthouse who tried to scam us left and right (Maria's). Hire a motobike in town to go up at dawn. Easy and quick walk to the top. Guys selling coffee and tea at the top. Amazing view, but pretty cold up there. You can see... More

3:30 a.m. wakeup to see the sunrise over the Lakes. One has to go up around 275 steps to get to the top to get a good view of the Lakes. The day I went, the lakes were a brilliant aqua blue, an emerald green and the one that is usually black or red was a dark green. A must-see.

Some of the more popular places in Moni were full. We booked the Kelimutu Resto from our hotel in Maumere (Sea World club). The place was very basic but clean and cheap. The Woman running the place was super friendly , gave us some banana fritters and a coffee as a welcome. We ate there that night , and had... More

Totally worth going out of your way to do this. Difficult to find a company that will escort you but we found one and everything worked out. Short walk to the craters. Must wait for clouds to pass to see views. Recommend driving up the hill, not walking :)

The three Keli Mutu cater lakes are a 'must see' in Flores. From very early in the morning until the clouds are disappeared. Different colors, different spheres.

Not to be missed if you come to Flores. Try to come up here for the sunrise view and see the lakes change colors as the angle of the sun changes. From the car park, it is an easy walk.

Moni village to the Keli-Mutu car parking area is about 15 kilometres, so you will need transport from the village. At the park entrance, you will have to pay RP150,000 per person per day, plus RP5,000 each for your driver or any other local with you, so take plenty of cash. While we appreciate having to pay to enter National... More

When I was there in 1988, one of the lakes was an amazing 'solid blue' and had yellow blotches at some of the places where it met land. The water looked more like oil paint. It was awesome in the true sense of the word. For some reason, this location gets pinned to Java on tripadvisor's map. It is in... More
